Dog Man

In the vibrant city of Ohkay, a thrilling adventure unfolds as Officer Knight and his loyal dog Greg, both voiced by Peter Hastings, embark on a daring pursuit to capture the nefarious Petey, an evil genius cat portrayed by Pete Davidson. Petey has been wreaking havoc throughout the town, and their aggressive chase culminates on the rooftop of a building where a wild standoff occurs. In a surprising twist, Petey launches a bomb at Knight and Greg, a bomb that he meticulously crafted alongside his reluctant assistant, Poppy Liu. Unfortunately, despite Knight’s brave attempts to neutralize the explosive device, the duo falls victim to the blast.

Following the incident, Knight and Greg find themselves hospitalized, with Greg suffering severe injuries and Knight sporting a bandaged head. To save their lives, the doctors perform an unprecedented surgical procedure, fusing Greg’s head onto Knight’s body, thus giving birth to a new hero: DOG MAN! This newfound protagonist quickly gains fame as a “supa cop,” dedicated to serving and protecting the citizens, while Petey, now feeling the weight of a fierce rivalry, marks Dog Man as his main adversary. The remarkable exploits of Dog Man are immortalized in news reports by Sara Hatoff, skillfully voiced by Isla Fisher. However, not everyone is pleased; The Chief, voiced by Lil Rel Howery, feels overshadowed and envious of Dog Man’s glory, expressing his frustration that he goes unrecognized for his efforts and openly admits his secret affection for Sarah.

As circumstances develop, Dog Man faces the harsh reality of loneliness, compounded by the fact that Knight’s house has been sold, forcing him to reside in a modest doghouse. The Chief, determined to put an end to Petey’s schemes, sends Dog Man on a mission to track down Petey—so urgent that it even requires a montage sequence of failed pursuits, during which Dog Man repeatedly thwarts Petey’s sinister plots, only for Petey to escape custody time and time again. This pattern greatly displeases The Mayor, voiced by Cheri Oteri, who becomes increasingly frustrated with Petey’s continuous evasion of the law and calls for the removal of Dog Man and The Chief from the case altogether.

In a scheming twist, Petey hatches a plot to create a clone of himself in a desperate attempt to gain the upper hand against Dog Man, especially after his assistant, Butler, abandons him due to his refusal to pay her in anything but unconventional items like chocolate coins and bottle caps. Meanwhile, The Chief informs Dog Man about another potential threat: a fish named Flippy, who once activated telekinesis and became a serious menace. Although tasked with monitoring Flippy to ensure he doesn’t fall into the wrong hands, Petey cunningly manages to snatch him before Dog Man can intervene.

As the plot thickens, Petey’s new cloning machine produces a miniature, adorable version of himself named Li’l Petey, who surprises everyone with his innocence and kindness. Despite Petey’s complicated relationship with his new counterpart, Li’l Petey views Petey as his father and desires to partake in his schemes. Meanwhile, Flippy inadvertently returns to life, thanks to magical gas from the Living Spray Factory, transforming it and culminating in a spontaneous attack on the city spurred on by Petey’s prior programming.

In an unexpected turn of events, both Dog Man and Petey realize their respective roles intertwine when Flippy abducts Li’l Petey, leading them to a moment of begrudged alliance against a common foe. As they unite to rescue Li’l Petey, an action-packed showdown ensues, highlighting the power of teamwork amidst their rivalry. This climactic confrontation challenges their preconceived notions of good versus evil.

As the fallout of their battle unfurls, Petey and Li’l Petey arrive back home only to discover Grampa has driven off with all of Petey’s inventions, leaving them bereft of resources. A moment of vulnerability passes between Petey and Li’l Petey, revealing that while Petey often embraces cynicism, he recognizes that the world holds beauty when shared with Li’l Petey. In a heartwarming conclusion, Petey decides that Li’l Petey should spend time with Dog Man, bringing joy to all involved. They are soon joined by The Chief and Sarah just as a final whimsical spectacle—a living party building adorned with flashing lights and music—invites everyone to dance, celebrating their newfound friendships in a city filled with adventure and camaraderie.
