Eddie Harrington and Albert Mansfield are summoned to fix a leak in Mr. Van Cleve's private bathroom. The problem keeps the grumpy businessman awake, even though his wife's costume ball proceeds downstairs. The plumbers start their repair, hoping to avoid any further damage to the mansion.

Mr. Van Cleve decides not to attend the ball and goes to bed instead. His absence leaves the downstairs festivities buzzing while the leak nags at the upstairs. The plumbers carry on with their work, trying not to wake him.

Eddie and Albert enlist their friend Elsie Hammerdingle, a taxi driver, to drive them to the mansion. They hope to handle the leak and maybe meet potential wealthy clients along the way. Elsie agrees to help with the trip.

While working upstairs, their repair inadvertently floods the room. Water pours over fixtures and threatens more damage during the investigation. The trio scrambles to contain the flood as the plumbing job spirals.

Peter Evans, a guest dressed as a cab driver, mistakes Elsie for another costumed attendee. Despite her insistence that she is just a taxi driver, he invites her to a gala at Briarwood. The invitation promises further social opportunities at Mrs. Winthrop's estate.

Mrs. Van Cleve intends to mail a letter of complaint about the damage, but she accidentally sends Eddie and Albert an invitation to the unveiling of The Plunger at Briarwood. The plumbers interpret it as a reward and a chance to meet wealthy clients. They eagerly prepare for the Briarwood event.

Albert dreams of the painting's value and fixates on The Plunger itself, while Eddie sees it as a practical business opportunity. They treat the Briarwood invitation as their big break. The mood shifts from repair work to social hustle.

Drexel, a ruthless loan shark they owe money to, orders them to steal The Plunger from Briarwood. He wants the painting as leverage and doesn’t hesitate to pressure the plumbers. The plan to resist is set in motion as the gala looms.

When Eddie and Albert refuse, Drexel and Marlow decide to steal the painting themselves. They move to execute the heist during the Briarwood gala. Tension rises as the theft becomes a real threat to the party.

The painting goes missing, and Gloria Winthrop immediately accuses Elsie, Eddie, and Albert of theft. The trio frantically tries to prove their innocence. The atmosphere at Briarwood thick with suspicion.

Eddie and Albert, riding a fire truck, corner Drexel and Marlow and recover The Plunger. They also clear their names in the process. The painting is returned to its rightful place amid the chaos of the gala.

After the resolution, several guests claim Eddie and Albert stole their tuxedos and the two are chased across a field. The episode adds a chaotic, comic endnote to the evening. The movie closes with the plumbers regrouping amid the confusion.
