Hank, once the high‑school hero turned janitor, finally confronts the alien parasite — the Ick — when it erupts as a towering, tentacled monster on the football field during prom night. He, Grace, Heather and Griffin make a desperate dash to the stadium, hoping the floodlights will repel the creature. In a brief flash of his former glory, Hank hurls a football at the power switch, igniting the lights and momentarily holding the Ick back. The illumination shreds the monster, but the creature tears through the stadium, collapsing the lights and dragging the crowd into darkness once again.

With the field engulfed, the four survivors scramble up a nearby radio tower. As the sunrise peaks, the first rays of natural sunlight hit the Ick, freezing it into a lifeless, plant‑like form. The immediate threat ends, and the town is left to rebuild, installing UV lights to keep the parasite at bay while a permanent solution is sought.

Meanwhile, the personal mystery that has haunted Hank resolves in a quiet, tender scene. Grace, who has long suspected Hank might be her father, finally hands him the envelope containing his DNA test results. The paper reveals that Hank is not her biological father – the DNA matches Ted Kim, the man who once stole Staci from him – but the gesture itself cements a bond forged through shared survival. Grace chooses to leave Eastbrook for college, and Hank, having reclaimed purpose, stays on as the town’s reluctant guardian.

Thus the film ends with the Ick immobilized by daylight, the community fortified against future outbreaks, and a former loser finding redemption not through glory on the field, but through protecting the people who finally see him as family.
