Uwe Brandner’s German film follows a young teacher who arrives in a remote village kept as a hunting preserve for the elite. Residents are kept placid with pills and police clubs. He befriends the gamekeeper, they fall in love, but his poaching with a gun sparks violence, turning the tale into a political parable about fascism, freedom and love‑hate tension.
