Hundreds of Beavers

Successful applejack salesman Jean Kayak faces disaster when a beaver gnaws at a support beam of a giant keg. This ongoing sabotage causes the keg to roll into his fireplace, leading to a catastrophic explosion and completely destroying his orchard.

After the orchard's destruction, Jean awakens in the harsh winter, struggling to find food. Despite his repeated attempts, he fails to catch anything, highlighting his desperate situation and the challenges posed by the frigid environment.

In his search for sustenance, Jean encounters a group of beavers that are busy collecting logs. He tries to attack them but quickly learns that they are much stronger, suffering defeat at their hands.

Desperate for food, Jean resorts to using his own blood to lure fish, sacrificing his comfort for survival. His ingenuity pays off as he successfully catches fish and sells them to a local merchant, who piques his interest in the lucrative fur trapping business.

With the money from selling fish, Jean buys a knife and uses it to cut his shirt into rope. He learns about the rabbit population exploiting a tunnel system and devises a plan to capture them using his homemade rope.

Jean's rabbit capture plan backfires when raccoons invade and steal his catches. Frustrated, he improvises by cutting his pants to hoist the rabbits into an unreachable position, demonstrating his growing resourcefulness.

After catching a raccoon, Jean encounters a Native American who trades him snowshoes for the knife. This transaction highlights the alliances forming as Jean adapts to his environment.

Jean breaks his leg after falling into a pit, but his fortune changes when the trapper, a seasoned fur catcher, rescues him. This event marks the beginning of Jean's apprenticeship, where he learns the art of trapping.

As wolves begin to threaten the trapper's dogs, tension escalates. The trapper hands Jean his trapping guide just before falling victim to the wolves, pushing Jean deeper into his survival journey.

Motivated by the trapper's demise, Jean begins to erase the old trapping techniques and write a new guide based on his own observations and adaptations. His innovation leads to a newfound mastery in trapping and a shift in his fortunes.

During his journey, Jean develops a romantic bond with the merchant's daughter, adding emotional depth to his struggles. However, the local merchant demands a hefty price — hundreds of beavers — for Jean to win her hand.

A pair of beavers, styled like Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, take it upon themselves to investigate Jean's trapping activities. Their efforts add a comedic element, but they soon become a significant threat to Jean's growing success.

Jean uncovers a shocking truth — the wolves are hoarding the trapper's wealth of beaver carcasses. This revelation leads him to devise a plan to eliminate the beaver detectives with the wolves, setting off a chain of events.

Caught infiltrating the beaver dam, Jean finds himself on trial for murder, facing dire consequences similar to the trapper. In a gripping scene, he narrowly escapes execution and fights back against those who condemned him.

In the chaos, Jean inadvertently triggers a flood while attempting to escape by igniting a rocket ship built by the beavers. The flood creates Green Bay while Jean, having proven his worth, finally receives the merchant's blessing to marry his daughter.
