On a snowy winter night, Stan Stan Laurel and Ollie Oliver Hardy try to keep Laughing Gravy Laughing Gravy hidden from their landlord Charlie Hall. Their attempt to stay quiet turns comic quickly: Stan’s hiccups wake Ollie, who nudges Stan to silence, only for the dog’s bark to pull the landlord into their cramped world. The landlord’s demand to leave looms over their small apartment, setting the tone for a series of escalating gags.

From there, Ollie’s misadventures become the engine of the film: he tracks down Laughing Gravy but ends up locked out, then slips into a frozen barrel of rainwater, and later claws his way down a brick chimney that seems determined to thwart them all. Each attempt to rescue the dog spirals into pratfalls that test their patience, their furniture, and their stubborn luck.

Amid the chaos, Stan receives a letter with a $1,000 check, a fortune tied to a strange condition: he must cut all ties with Ollie. At first, he hides the letter, but Ollie guilts him into sharing it. With Ollie’s blessing, Stan contemplates leaving forever. In a last-minute reversal, Stan tears up the letter and returns to his friend, insisting he stayed for their loyal dog instead of the cash.

Just before the eviction is finalized, a policeman Harry Bernard arrives with grim news: the building is quarantined for two months, and no one may depart. The frustrated landlord exits with a rifle, a shot rings out, and the sound of the landlord’s body hitting the floor echoes through the hall. The trio, sharing a stunned pause, slowly lowers their hats as the door closes on their improbable night.
