As the wedding bells prepare to ring for Larry Abbott and Vickie Pearle on the well-loved “Manhattan Mystery Theater” radio show, their journey toward marriage is suddenly clouded by a sequence of unsettling occurrences. Larry, plagued by sudden panic attacks and speech difficulties—both sparked by his proposal to Vickie—faces the dire possibility that his predicament could not only derail his career but also jeopardize their impending union. In a bid to help, his uncle, Dr. Paul Abbott, resorts to a bizarre form of shock therapy designed to “scare Larry to death,” a tactic as unpredictable as it is unusual, drawing a curious comparison to the well-known method for curing hiccups.

The quirky couple opts to host their wedding at Larry’s childhood residence, a sprawling mansion steeped in mystery and charm. This unique location serves as a fascinating backdrop for Vickie to encounter Larry’s unconventional family, which includes his great-aunt Kate, who has generously willed her considerable wealth to him; Uncle Francis; and an ensemble of cousins—Charles, Nora, and the flamboyant Francis Jr., who favors the company of men in women’s attire.
