Connie Nikas takes drastic measures when he forcibly removes his brother Nick, who has developmental disabilities, from a therapy session. The duo pulls off a bank heist in New York City, making off with $65,000. However, their escape goes awry when a dye pack explodes in the money bag inside their getaway car, leading to a violent crash. As they flee on foot, they manage to wash the dye from their clothes in a restaurant restroom, but things take a turn when the police intervene. In a panic, Nick runs away and is ultimately apprehended, while Connie manages to escape.
Desperate to bail Nick out of jail, Connie learns he needs an additional $10,000 after his initial efforts prove fruitless. He persuades his girlfriend, Corey to use her mother’s credit cards, but things go south when her mother cancels them. The situation worsens as Connie finds out that Nick has been hospitalized due to a violent confrontation with another inmate. In a reckless move, Connie breaks Nick out of the hospital, though he’s unconscious and bandaged. They find temporary refuge in a woman’s house along with her 16-year-old granddaughter, Crystal.
While watching TV, Connie’s face appears on the news, prompting him to distract Crystal with an unwarranted kiss. Suddenly, screams erupt from another room, leading Connie to the shocking realization that the man he rescued is not actually Nick but Ray, a parolee. They quickly make off to the Adventureland amusement park, where Ray had hidden a bottle of LSD worth thousands before fleeing the police and injuring himself. A security guard catches them in the act, but Connie resorts to violence, incapacitating him. As police approach, Connie dons the guard’s uniform while Ray irresponsibly pours the LSD down the guard’s throat to keep him confused.
Connie successfully deceives the police, convincing them that the guard is the real offender while destroying vital security footage. However, while outside, Crystal is arrested. In a later twist, Connie and Ray break into the guard’s high-rise apartment. Tensions rise when Connie confronts Ray about being a societal leech. Pushing Ray to contact his criminal associate, Caliph, they hatch a plan to sell the LSD back to him for bail money. When Caliph arrives, Connie demands a hefty $15,000, triggering impending danger as Caliph hints at retrieving a firearm. In the chaos, police apprehend Connie, and in desperation, Ray tries to escape through a window but tragically falls to his death. Meanwhile, Nick finds himself beginning anew, joining a therapy class and finally starting to engage in group activities.
