Three years after exposing corruption in Winton, Indigenous detective Jay Swan is assigned to investigate the mysterious disappearance of an Asian tourist in Goldstone. This new case takes him back into a world filled with crime and deceit that he thought he had left behind.

While driving, Jay is stopped by a young, local officer named Josh, who suspects him of drunk driving. Unbeknownst to Josh, he alerts Maureen, the corrupt mayor, leading to increased scrutiny on Jay's actions.

Jay attempts to rest in a motel caravan, only to be jolted awake by gunfire from two armed men. This harrowing experience emphasizes the danger associated with his investigation and the lengths corrupt individuals will go to maintain their hold over the community.

After the motel shooting, Josh takes Jay to a secluded off-grid location to avoid escalating danger. This new alliance marks the beginning of their complicated relationship as they work together to uncover the truth.

Josh visits the Furnace Creek mine where he meets Johnny, the supervisor. During their interaction, Johnny tries to bribe Josh to facilitate an expansion project, showcasing the corruption running deep within the mining operations.

In his quest for information about the missing tourist, Jay consults Jimmy, a local elder. Under Jimmy's guidance, Jay learns about the sinister activities at Furnace Creek that would lead him closer to the case.

Jay sneaks into Furnace Creek and witnesses young Asian women being forcibly herded from a plane into a van, a grim sight that reveals the depths of exploitation in the community. This shocking revelation intensifies Jay's determination to solve the case.

Jay receives an anonymous tip leading him to a creek where he shockingly discovers the body of Jimmy hanging from a tree. This shocking event raises suspicions about foul play and begins to unravel the web of corruption surrounding the mine.

After being summoned for tea, Jay meets with Maureen, who tries to dissuade him from pursuing the case against the backdrop of her cryptic warnings. This meeting highlights the manipulative nature of the local leadership and their involvement in the disappearance.

At the local bar/brothel, Josh meets a prostitute named Mei. Their conversation assures her that he will help her if she is in trouble, illustrating the burgeoning friendships that form in the face of adversity.

Tommy confides in Josh, revealing that he was involved in the murder of Jimmy and laying bare the extent of the corruption involving Maureen and Johnny. This critical moment serves as a turning point in their investigation.
