Godzilla: The Planet Eater

The ending of “Godzilla: The Planet Eater” sees the survivors confront the powerful threat posed by King Ghidorah, who is given a new, terrifying form by the alien Metphies, the main antagonist from the Exif race. Throughout the film, the humans and their alien allies are struggling with despair and internal conflicts, especially after their failed attempt to destroy Godzilla and the revelation that Metphies is secretly working with Ghidorah to bring destruction to Earth. As Ghidorah descends through portals and attacks Godzilla, the creature is unable to defend itself against the kaiju’s intangible form, which drains its energy. In the final battle, Godzilla quickly defeats Ghidorah, leaving the planet safe once again. However, the death of Metphies warns that Ghidorah will return someday.

The story ends on a somber note, with the few remaining humans contemplating their future. Haruo, feeling the looming threat of future wars and the destructive potential of nanometal, decides to leave behind the hope of rebuilding society with the same technology. Instead, he chooses a path of sacrifice, taking the last Vulture mech and yelling a suicidal charge at Godzilla, who destroys the craft. This act causes the last of the nanometal to be eradicated, ensuring humanity’s survival in a fragile peace—though Haruo’s burden and worries about what might come next remain. Meanwhile, his love interest Maina, who is pregnant with his child, and the unconscious Yuko symbolize the fragile hope for a future that still hangs in the balance. The film ends on a note of uncertain peace, hinting that the cycle of destruction and renewal could begin again someday.
