Wu suggests they follow Sifu's principles and continue fighting by them, refusing to kill people for the spectators' pleasure. He proposes reaching the final round and then refusing to fight, making a disclosure about the tournament and its corrupt nature. Veena counters by suggesting Wu lose to Max in the final to collect the prize money and deny Mantis her fight.

  11. Mantis threatens Wu

Mantis finds out about Wu's plan and threatens him directly. She vows to kill Max, Wu, Veena, and all the students of Huang's school if they try to destroy the tournament, revealing she uses it to control all the gangs of the city. She orders Wu to continue participating in the competition.

  12. Free-for-all round and fraternal conflict

The next round becomes a free-for-all with all remaining fighters, including Max, Wu, and Kerchak Kong, battling for a place in the final while sponsors again use the Wheel of Steel to influence the fights. Some fighters are knocked out as the survivors fight for their spots in the final. Q10

Why does Mantis protect the Naraka Tournament and threaten the school?

Q12

How does Wu Yen plan to expose the tournament's corruption?

Do Wu and Max actually win the Naraka Tournament?

They do not secure a conventional tournament victory. Max shoots Mantis and Sho-Jin kills Bohan, breaking the criminal leadership, but Wu refuses to kill Sho-Jin and Sho-Jin escapes with the prize money. Gladiator Underground therefore ends with a bittersweet partial victory: the syndicate is weakened, but the purse is lost and Wu's principles remain intact.

Max's alcohol dependence makes cooperation difficult during the free-for-all round, when the brothers need to move forward together. His unstable behavior and refusal to follow Wu's approach strain their alliance, weakening the unity that Sifu's deathbed request was meant to create.

Foreshadowing: Max's drinking and street-fighting background foreshadow his instability during the tournament's free-for-all.
