Giant from the Unknown

Professor Cleveland and his daughter Janet arrive to conduct archaeological work in Devil's Crag. The town is unsettled by livestock mutilations and a recent murder, fueling fear of a tribal curse. Sheriff Parker bans Indian Joe from the premises to prevent panic, while he also keeps an eye on local geologist Wayne Brooks.

During dinner, Brooks offers to show Cleveland his collection of local artifacts. This invitation hints at a deeper interest in the region's buried history. Janet senses a thread connecting present fears to long-vanished cultures.

After dinner, Brooks leads them to his laboratory to examine his finds. He explains artifacts suggest centuries of history beneath Devil's Crag and hints at legends like the Diablo Giant.

Janet opens a box in Brooks' laboratory and finds a small lizard preserved inside. Brooks explains it had been entombed inside a rock in suspended animation for a long time. The moment underscores the theme of ancient life reawakening in the present.

Indian Joe peers through a window, closely observing the visitors. He remains suspicious of the outsiders and warns that the place is evil if locals dig into graves.

That evening, Cleveland reconstructs broken fragments into a cross and theorizes that conquistadors visited Devil's Crag centuries ago. The idea ties supernatural fears to tangible relics and legends. Meanwhile, Brooks and Janet witness new artifacts expanding the mystery.

The next morning Wayne guides Cleveland and Janet to Devil's Crag, while Sheriff Parker trails in his police car. Parker chastises Brooks for trespassing in a danger zone, but Cleveland presents a research permit and asserts they are armed. The group proceeds with caution.

During the day's exploration, Indian Joe fires a rifle toward Brooks but claims he was hunting rabbits. He accuses the expedition of robbing Native American graves, reminding the party of the area's dangers. Brooks reassures him that they are there only for Spanish artifacts.

Brooks reports that the area is physically changing, possibly due to a recent electrical storm. The group uses metal detectors and searches the ground, but initial digging yields nothing.

Janet detects metal underground, leading to an excavation of a cache containing armor, weapons, and bones. Brooks discovers a rock formation similar to the lizard's tomb and uncovers the handle of a massive axe, hinting at Vargas, the Diablo Giant. The discovery heightens the sense that something ancient has awakened.

An electrical storm forces Brooks to leave the site, and in his absence the Diablo Giant Vargas rises from the detritus. The creature begins stalking the area, signaling that the sleep of centuries has ended.

The next day the group finds a large indentation where body armor and artifacts have vanished. They conclude Vargas may still be alive, revived by the storm and the digging. Tension rises as the threat is confirmed.

That night Vargas kills Anne Brown, a local teenager, prompting Sheriff Parker to arrest Brooks on suspicion of murder. A medallion found in Anne's hand links one of Brooks' excavated artifacts to the crime.

Following another brutal death, Pine Ridge locals join the hunt for Vargas, treating him as a roaming maniac. The community unites under the sheriff's leadership to track the creature through the wilderness.

Brooks locates Vargas and kills him, pushing the monster off a bridge spanning a raging waterfall. The town breathes a sigh of relief as the immediate threat is neutralized.
