Genghis Khan

The young Temujin watches his father Yesugei be tortured and killed by Jamuga's rival tribe. He is yoked with a wheel around his neck and tormented by other children. This brutal start drives Temujin to seek strength and survival.

Temujin meets Bortai but is punished by Jamuga. He escapes, hides in the hills, followed by the holy man Geen and the mute warrior Sengal who pledge loyalty to him. He vows to unite all Mongol tribes.

Temujin liberates Salkit prisoners held by the Merkits. The freed men slaughter their captors and join Temujin, strengthening his growing confederation with Yesugei's tribe.

Raids along caravan routes enlarge his army and he decides to capture Bortai as his wife. He succeeds, expanding his influence and consolidating power.

Jamuga tracks Temujin's camp via Bortai's brothers and recaptures Bortai, raping her. Temujin steals her back and raises the resulting child as his own. His army then heads east to escape Jamuga.

Kam Ling, a stranded Chinese ambassador, helps Temujin and accompanies him into Song China, where he meets the Emperor. Though Temujin enjoys luxuries, he and his companions feel like prisoners in the imperial city.

The Mongols defeat Manchurians led by Jamuga; Jamuga is captured, and the Emperor proclaims Temujin as Genghis Khan, the Prince of Conquerors.

The Mongol army stays in Beijing for an extended period to train and learn. Although Jamuga is captured, he refuses to allow Merkit tribes to join Temujin's united Mongol tribes.

Temujin asks to return to his homeland, but the Emperor plans to assassinate him by keeping him inside China. Kam Ling reveals the plan and suggests Temujin undertake a long journey that could end in assassination, but Temujin deduces that Jamuga would be the killer.

The Mongols trick the Emperor into lighting the final fireworks, causing a fatal explosion that breaches the city wall. They escape with the Emperor's daughter and Kam Ling and begin their Asia-wide conquest.

Temujin instructs Bortai's brothers Jebi, Subotai and Kassar to conquer China, Russia and India respectively. This formalizes the plan to unite the known world under his leadership.

Mongol armies march from Manchuria to Moscow, expanding their reach. Jamuga flees to Khwarezm and convinces the Shah to ally with Merkits.

Kam Ling is sent as envoy to Jamuga; Jamuga kills Kam Ling and drags the body back, declaring there will be no alliance with Genghis Khan.

In a final Mongol duel, Temujin defeats Jamuga, though gravely wounded. The Merkits bow down and join the Mongol tribes, fulfilling Temujin's dream of unity.

Temujin dies after a loving farewell to Bortai and her brothers. A voiceover recalls Genghis Khan's empire and successors, including Babur and Kublai Khan.
