Gamera: Guardian of the Universe

Gamera didn't intentionally attack the military, he was drawn to the location because the military strike against him attracted the final Gyaos to the scene. The attack was aimed at neutralizing Gamera, but the noise and chaos summoned the monster, creating a three-way confrontation where Gamera was wounded and forced to retreat to the ocean.

Earlier scenes establish that Gyaos are attracted to conflict and sound, making the military operation a fatal miscalculation.

Asagi formed the bond when she touched one of the orihalcum amulets uncovered on the atoll. The amulets were ancient relics etched with Etrurian runes, and when she made physical contact with the stone, a spiritual connection was established between her and Gamera. This bond allowed her to sense his pain and injuries.

The atoll discovery scene establishes the amulets as significant artifacts with mystical properties.

Asagi shares Gamera's wounds because of the spiritual bond created when she touched the amulet. The bondalink is mystical rather than physical, meaning when Gamera sustains injury in battle, Asagi experiences the same pain and fatigue in her own body. This connection works in both directions, allowing her to channel energy to revive him.

Nagamine and Yonemori deduce that Gyaos are genetically engineered creatures that reproduce asexually. They theorize the creatures were awakened by pollution, specifically, the environmental damage caused by modern industrial activity. Gamera, in contrast, was created by an ancient civilization specifically to combat the Gyaos threat.

Super Gyaos emerged because the last surviving Gyaos was able to grow and evolve after the other creatures were killed. With no competition and feeding on the chaos and destruction, it transformed into the more powerful Super Gyaos form. Tokyo became its target because it's a major population center, and it nested in the ruins of Tokyo Tower after the initial attack.

The earlier Gyaos attacks in the Goto Archipelago and Kiso Mountain Range show the creatures growing bolder and more destructive.

Asagi revived Gamera by channeling her spiritual energy through their bond while watching the battle from a helicopter. Even though she was physically separated from Gamera, the mystical connection allowed her to transfer life force to him. This surge of energy gave Gamera the strength to overcome Super Gyaos and fire his devastating plasma fireball.

The bond's earlier manifestation, sharing Gamera's wounds, demonstrates the two-way nature of their connection.

The government fixated on Gamera because he had already caused visible destruction, including during his initial appearance and subsequent battles. Officials dismissed Kusanagi's warnings about Gyaos being the true threat because Gamera was the monster they could see causing damage. This misjudgment persisted until Super Gyaos attacked Tokyo, forcing a strategic pivot.

Kusanagi tries to persuade government officials after the runes are translated, but they remain unconvinced.

Gamera returned to the ocean because it's his natural habitat and where he recuperates between threats. After healing Asagi through their bond and releasing her from the connection, he retreated to the sea to recover from his wounds. Asagi expresses confidence that he will return if needed, implying he serves as a dormant guardian who emerges when genuine threats arise.

Gamera previously retreated to the ocean after being wounded at Mount Fuji, establishing this pattern.

The atoll itself appears to be connected to Gamera, it may be his dormant resting place or a seal keeping him bound. The collision of the plutonium-carrying ship with the atoll triggered the sequence of events: the atoll quaked, the stone slab was destroyed, and this disturbance freed or awakened Gamera. The orihalcum amulets and runes were the key to understanding his existence.

Yonemori glimpses the eye and tusk of a giant turtle-like creature as the atoll shudders, confirming something ancient lies beneath.

Two Gyaos were successfully lured and captured inside the Fukuoka Dome using the government's luring strategy. However, the third Gyaos slipped away toward the harbor before reaching the stadium. The two captured birds then escaped before they could be secured, allowing the creatures to continue their attacks.
