In her quest for fame and recognition in the entertainment industry, Jess, a 27-year-old aspiring actress, became enchanted by the fascination of social media. She dove headfirst into the realm of live streaming on a platform called “Live Hive,” where she shared her unsettling encounters with strangers found through unconventional job listings. Using these opportunities, Jess manipulated their desires while discreetly unearthing their sexual inclinations, all while hiding their identities by blurring their faces in her videos. This risky pathway took a turn when a sudden technical glitch momentarily exposed a stranger’s face during a live session. Instead of deleting the incriminating footage, Jess seized the moment, aiming to harness the surge of attention to amplify her followers and generate revenue.

Her family, particularly her father and brother, both lawyers, were sternly against her unconventional methods, especially regarding her filming of individuals without their consent. Nonetheless, Jess was resolute in her conviction that she had committed no wrongdoing. Soon after, she received an intriguing job offer from Tom, an Australian film writer in search of a female collaborator to infuse some erotic elements into his horror film script. Setting a meeting amidst the eerie landscapes of his remote cabin, Jess was initially charmed by Tom’s attractive demeanor, despite an unsettling vibe he radiated. Under the pretense of working together, he invited her to his cabin and provided her with an advance payment. Feeling torn yet driven by the allure of the financial reward, Jess secretly recorded Tom and explored the surroundings with a hidden camera imbedded in her glasses. Unbeknownst to her, Tom was documenting her movements as well.

As the evening unfolded in the cabin, Tom’s behavior diverged into discomforting territory. His attempts to become intimate threw Jess into a whirlwind of uncertainty. However, with full payment at stake, she braved the distressing circumstances. Using a false identity, she introduced herself as Lucy, only to discover that Tom was acutely aware of her real identity and had written a sinister narrative in the script that echoed her life and their encounters. The realization struck her that something was terribly off as she sensed she was no longer in control.

In a desperate attempt to escape, Jess tried to outsmart Tom by luring him into a bedroom under the pretext of engaging in stimulating activities. Attempting to buy time, she aimed to tie him up but miscalculated, allowing him to turn the tables and restrain her instead. Meanwhile, shadowy figures, clad in ghostly masks, began appearing around the cabin, heightening the eerie atmosphere. Tom then forced Jess into a chair, setting up a camera to record her torment. Stripped of her freedom and engulfed in terror, she understood that Tom recognized her past misdeeds, including the exposure of others’ faces in her videos.

Compelled to confess publicly, Tom initiated a live stream, coercing her to disclose her actions. Although Jess complied under duress, she managed to break free amidst the chaos, inflicting some damage on him. Yet, aware that her audience was watching live, she hesitated to end Tom’s life completely. The viewers, unable to decipher reality from staged drama, remained passive in this horrific scenario. Ultimately, Jess contemplated finishing Tom’s life, but to her shock, he unveiled that the terrifying ordeal was merely part of a film shoot. Crew members emerged, revealing that they had been capturing her experiences the whole time.

Despite the initial praise from Tom for her riveting performance, Jess realized that the film was far from over; the script dictated her character’s demise as the climax. Thrown into disarray, she fled the cabin and sought help from the police, yet her morally ambiguous actions and her penchant for filming others without consent led the authorities to dismiss her claims. Even her influential lawyer father found himself unable to support her. Stricken with despair, Jess came to a disconcerting truth—the film had not yet concluded, remaining unfinished.

Retreating to her apartment, she barricaded the door, fearing Tom might return to silence her permanently. A parcel arrived, containing Jess’s jacket, sent back by Tom, carrying the weight of dreadful reality. As she delved deeper into Tom’s profile, she discovered a live-streaming platform mirroring Live Hive, showcasing videos chronicling her life, violating her privacy, and revealing her vulnerabilities to the world. Meanwhile, Tom lurked outside her door, wearing a Joker mask, poised to invade her sanctuary and finalize the film by eliminating her. Yet, amidst her sorrow and realization of power lost, Jess resolved to embrace her newfound potential as a director, contemplating exposing herself or even collaborating with Tom in his disturbing narrative. With tears wiped away, she prepared to confront her reality, now aware of her ability to reclaim control over her story.
