A dysfunctional sonic collective, still without a name, finds itself in residence at an institute focused on avant-garde culinary performances. As they navigate the demands of the enigmatic director, Jan Stevens, power struggles and rivalries quickly emerge within the group. Stones, the Institute's chronicler, observes the unfolding events while secretly struggling with increasingly severe stomach problems. His documentation of the collective's antics leads him on a desperate search for authenticity and a solution to his physical distress.

In the end, Elle fakes her own death, which is a pivotal and mysterious moment in the film. Throughout the story, Elle’s behavior suggests she is deeply troubled and desires control over her narrative. Her dramatic staging of her supposed death serves as a way to escape her feelings of guilt and the chaos she has helped create within the band. By pretending to be dead, Elle manipulates the others into feeling grief and guilt, keeping them emotionally fractured and vulnerable, which she then uses as a tool for her artistic expression. It is revealed that Elle’s apparent death is actually a hoax—she is very much alive, standing among the audience during the final performance, applauding with everyone else. This revelation underscores her desire to maintain power over her own story and to avoid facing her guilt directly.

Elle’s stunt is also a way for her to redefine herself and her role in the chaos she created. Throughout the film, she struggles with her identity as an artist and her need for control, and her fake death is a symbolic act of transformation—an attempt to shed her former self and the burdens of her manipulations. It highlights her obsession with playing the part of the tortured artist and her inability to accept accountability. Ultimately, her faked death leaves the others devastated and confused, pushing them further into their own internal conflicts. The ending suggests that Elle’s deception is a form of artistic extremism, reflecting her complex psychology where her identity and her art are deeply intertwined, blurring the lines between reality and performance.
