On the morning of September 11, 2001, first officer LeRoy Homer Jr. dresses for duty, shares a kiss with his wife and daughter, and heads to Newark Liberty International Airport. Passengers board United Airlines Flight 93 at Newark, among them Tom Burnett, Todd Beamer, Mark Bingham, Elizabeth Wainio, and Nicole Miller. Four hijackers — Ziad Jarrah, Saeed al-Ghamdi, Ahmed al-Haznawi, and Ahmed Alnami — also board, and the plane lifts off bound for San Francisco.
About 46 minutes after takeoff, the hijackers make their move; Mark Bingham tries to negotiate as panic spreads when the crew reveals a bomb and the atmosphere grows volatile. A flight attendant is knocked unconscious, and the hijackers push their way into the cockpit to attack the pilots. In the ensuing struggle, Homer delivers a mayday call before he and Captain Jason Dahl are knocked out. Simultaneously, Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, marking the day’s wider tragedy.
Aboard Flight 93, families and crew relay news of the attacks via airphones, and the passengers decide to resist. They learn that Don Greene has practical flying experience, and the group gravitates toward a plan to challenge the hijackers. They arm themselves, offer prayers, and place final calls to loved ones. > Let’s Roll!
The plan to take back the aircraft gains momentum as the passengers organize and prepare to confront the hijackers. The cabin erupts in coordinated efforts: the group uses a food cart as a makeshift battering ram, while the hijackers attempt to keep control. Jarrah adds violent twists to throw the passengers off balance, and the plane narrowly avoids an encounter with a private aircraft. As the stakes rise, the passengers push toward the cockpit, determined to prevent the pilots from being forced to follow through with the hijackers’ intended target. Inside the cockpit, the struggle intensifies, and the hijackers issue a fatal command to crash rather than yield.
In the final moments, Flight 93 begins its catastrophic nosedive, a ground observer reports the descent, and air traffic control desperately searches for any response. Emergency responders reach the crash site, discovering the wreckage and a deep crater. The film then slides through time, showing how the event reshaped a nation and how the footprint of that day slowly fades from memory.
