Fireworks Wednesday (2006)

The narrative begins just after the *Chaharshanbe Suri* festival, a traditional celebration that takes places before *Nowruz*. This festival marks the transition into spring and hints at the couple's desire for renewal before their upcoming vacation.

In an effort to prepare their home for the Dubai vacation, Morteza hires a new maid named Rouhi, against Mozhdeh's wishes. Mozhdeh is skeptical of needing maid services, creating an early rift in their relationship.

As Rouhi begins her work in the house, she quickly picks up on the underlying tensions between Mozhdeh and Morteza. Mozhdeh’s suspicions grow when she finds a phone number belonging to their divorced neighbor Simin in Morteza’s call logs.

Mozhdeh believes Morteza is seeing Simin and confronts Rouhi about finding out more. With Morteza out late, she asks Rouhi to inquire about Simin’s schedule, which only heightens her anxieties about the situation.

While getting her eyebrows trimmed by Simin, Rouhi overhears information revealing that Simin is aware of the couple's travel plans. This discovery intensifies Mozhdeh’s suspicions about Morteza's potential infidelity.

To avoid a confrontation, Rouhi pretends to be Simin's niece when the landlord announces the apartment is for sale. Rouhi cleverly navigates the tricky social dynamics that serve to protect her interests and those of the household.

Mozhdeh, distraught and desperate, decides to spy on Morteza using Rouhi’s chador. While she is spying, Rouhi goes to pick up their son Amirali from school, highlighting the family's disruption and Mozhdeh's growing paranoia.

Morteza discovers Mozhdeh spying on him and, in a fit of rage, confronts her aggressively. This vicious encounter culminates in physical violence, exacerbating their already fragile relationship and leading Mozhdeh to seek refuge elsewhere.

After the confrontation, Mozhdeh decides to leave with her son Amirali, rejecting Morteza's attempts at apology. This decision reflects Mozhdeh’s determination to protect her and her son's wellbeing over her tumultuous marriage.

In an attempt to alleviate the situation, Rouhi concocts a story to explain Simin's awareness of the Samiei's travel plans. This lie is indicative of the web of deceit that has ensnared all involved in the unfolding drama.

Morteza, under the guise of a family outing, takes Rouhi and Amirali to watch the fireworks. However, he uses this opportunity to meet secretly with Simin, confirming Mozhdeh's worst fears about the affair.

Upon their meeting, Simin expresses her desire to end things with Morteza to protect the Samiei family, revealing her own conflicts. This moment highlights the complexities and emotional turmoil of all the characters involved.

After smelling Simin's distinctive perfume, Rouhi starts to connect the dots regarding Morteza’s betrayal. This realization adds layers to Rouhi's character as she grapples with the implications of their troubled lives.

While waiting for a ride, Rouhi sees Simin's ex-husband and considers revealing the truth to Mozhdeh. Ultimately, she decides against it, underscoring the moral complexities and the weight of secrets within the narrative.

The film concludes with Morteza alone and Mozhdeh finding solace with Amirali. This separation emphasizes the emotional and physical distance that has emerged between the couple, leaving viewers to ponder the future of their relationship.
