The expedition rescues a young woman named Hestia from an unseen threat, and through her learns of a dying world populated almost entirely by women, with only an elderly man named Prasus remaining as their guardian and leader.

A monstrous creature stalks the perimeter of New Atlantis—a being impervious to bullets, described as having the form of a man with the head of a beast. As the Earthmen navigate the complexities of this isolated society, they find themselves entangled in questions of survival, legacy, and purpose.
