Banesh Fene, Amey Wagh, is a wildlife enthusiast who spends most of his time in the forest treating birds. He is set to travel to Pune for a month to prepare for his medical entrance exam, and his mother arranges his stay with a relative — B.R. Bhagwat, a renowned writer who now lives alone in Pune. The moment Banesh arrives, he discovers a robbery has already taken place. With a nearby political event causing a delay in police response, Banesh uses the pause to gather clues and traces a ten-year-old boy, a frightened orphan nicknamed Bhu Bhu, who was pressed into theft to seize wealth from a senior citizen.

Banesh rescues [Bhu Bhu] and returns to B.R. Bhagwat’s home. Bhagwat, a kind man, adopts the boy and rewards Banesh with a pen that has written many of his books. Next, Banesh heads to the college where his exam is scheduled. There he befriends a fellow student and the two quickly form a bond. Banesh lends his pen to his new friend after the latter forgets his own. After the exam, Banesh runs into his childhood friend Aboli and they exchange numbers. He then hurries to find his friend to retrieve the pen, only to learn that the examiner had informed him he left well before the scheduled time. Banesh is disappointed to have lost the pen that served as a reward.

As Banesh reads the newspaper, he learns that his friend has committed suicide. He is shocked by this report, because his friend appeared ambitious and not prone to self-harm. He decides to investigate and goes to the hostel where the police have already completed their inquiry and are preparing to leave. Banesh challenges the police’s conclusion, insisting it was a murder masked as suicide. That night, he barges into the hostel and reviews the CCTV footage: after the exam, the suspect is menaced by a figure believed to be the murderer, and 15 minutes later the suspect exits the hostel in a petrified state and hails a rickshaw.

Banesh and Bhu Bhu track down the rickshaw driver and press him for details about the suspect. They then go to Swastik Lodge, where the suspect had been staying for the past two weeks but left abruptly. Posing as his friends, they question the reception about items left behind and uncover a set of clothes and a photo-studio receipt. Banesh follows the trail to the photo-studio, but the studio’s manager alerts his boss — Appa, a mafia don who runs a syndicate that manipulates college admissions. Banesh, using his sharp wit, evades the goons and gathers more material, determined to expose the truth.

The suspect is revealed to be Amol, who explains that he is not the murderer but an eyewitness. Amol is a coach for medical entrance exams and was recruited by Appa’s men to pose as a dummy for another student. Amol, coming from a poor family, is lured by money. A former student from Amol’s coaching institute identifies him and informs the examiner, who then contacts the principal. The examiner is part of Appa’s syndicate, and Appa himself tracks Amol to his hostel. There, the goons murder him to erase evidence, and Amol manages to escape.

Banesh tries to understand Amol’s dilemma and quietly leaves him at B.R. Bhagwat’s house for safety. Bhagwat promises to look after Amol. That night, when Banesh and Bhu Bhu depart to pursue Appa, the don’s henchmen attack Bhagwat’s house and injure him. Banesh returns and asks about Amol; Bhagwat reveals he has kept Amol secured, but Appa calls Banesh with a chilling warning that if he wants Aboli to stay safe, he must bring Amol to Appa’s location.

Banesh rushes to hospitalize Bhagwat and transport Amol to the gang’s hideout. However, the plan spirals as Aboli is captured by Pillai, and Banesh must decide whether to bring Amol to safety or risk everything. Amol shouts that Banesh is a cheater, and the goons realize the person Banesh has brought is not Amol but Rahul Khamkar, the minister’s son who had substituted for Amol during the exam. Banesh ultimately exposes Rahul and Amol’s confessions in a public conference, and a tense chase culminates on a rooftop where Banesh sedates Appa with the mafia chief’s own insulin pen. With the help of the authorities, Appa, his goons, and the corrupt minister are all arrested, along with their associates.

Dhanesh gets a good result, and Banesh tells his father that his son will be a good example for other students. Bhagwat returns to his room and begins writing his first novel inspired by Banesh, titling it “Faster Fene” in homage to the young man who unmasked a dangerous scheme and helped restore integrity to the admission process.
