Sergeant Archie Sparks pursues Corporal Meredith Cole after she’s accused of assault. When Archie momentarily turns away, Meredith slips out of his custody and disappears. Her escape triggers a renewed manhunt across Texas as she heads toward the next phase of her flight.

On Christmas Eve, Meredith ends up on an American Auto Coach bus bound for El Paso, joining a diverse mix of passengers. The ride promises an uneventful journey, though tension lingers as law enforcement pursues her. The bus becomes a fragile sanctuary as outside chaos begins to unfold.

A group of meth-addicted bikers taunts the bus and performs dangerous stunts around it. One biker missteps and is run over by the bus, triggering a vengeful reaction from the others. The driver Danny Gunn exits to help, but a biker shoots him dead, wounding Meredith and passenger Joey Ryan as stray rounds fly.

Jerry Yarbro retrieves the biker’s weapon while Walter Lindley grabs Danny’s keys, and the surviving passengers attempt to flee down the highway. They realize there is no police signal or cellular service to call for help. Joey Ryan succumbs to her injuries as the escape effort continues.

The group is forced off the road at an abandoned junkyard where the bus rams into a boat, causing a crash. Walter Lindley is killed in the collision, and the survivors barricade themselves inside a makeshift bunker to weather the assault. The bikers close in, determined to finish what they started.

Inside the junkyard bunker, the remaining passengers prepare to defend themselves with makeshift weapons. Jerry maintains control of the gun while the group debates whether to go on the offensive to survive. They realize staying passive will likely lead to their destruction.

Maudie McMinn, a marathon runner and mother, crosses roughly 20 miles of desert to reach the nearest town and seek assistance. Back at the junkyard, the others improvise a defense using Annabel’s bow and Ramon’s improvised cannon. The plan hinges on getting outside help before the bikers overwhelm them.

Maudie reunites with Archie and the duo work to thin the biker line, killing several of the attackers. They then make a perilous return to the junkyard compound in the midst of the confrontation to reinforce the survivors.

The remaining bikers intensify their assault, injuring Ramon and killing Duke, Desiree, and Jerry. With heavy losses, the survivors—Sam, Meredith, Annabel, and Ramon—hold the line as best they can. The group steels themselves for a final breakout or surrender.

The bikers are ultimately killed, and the survivors are driven to the nearest town by Maudie and Archie. They are taken to a hospital where the immediate danger passes and the wounded begin to recover. The sense of relief contrasts with the grim toll of the night.

At the hospital, Maudie reunites with her daughters, providing a glimmer of normalcy after the ordeal. The reunion underscores the personal stakes behind the survival, contrasting with the larger threat that was faced. The family moment punctuates the film’s emotional payoff.

With Archie’s help, Meredith evades pursuit by the army once more and joins Sam and Annabel as they head back onto the road in a minivan. The trio sets off into an uncertain future, continuing to run from a danger that survived the night. Archie’s involvement hints at a reprieve rather than a final resolution.
