Leonard Borland, a New York wrecking contractor, is married to Doris, an aspiring opera singer. He finances her recital with $3,000 to give her a shot at stardom. Doris lacks the talent to be a true singing star, but Leonard supports her dream anyway.

Opera celebrity Cecil Carver first encounters Borland as he tries to coax a critic to attend Doris's recital. She becomes intrigued by his voice and charm. Leonard remains in love with Doris, which complicates the dynamic between them.

Cecil invites Leonard to work on her production and gives him the stage name Logan Bennett. He agrees, knowing Doris remains his true love. Leonard's talent soon proves valuable to the show.

They return home to discover Leonard has been offered a lucrative wrecking contract in Texas. The news tests their reconciliation and opens a new chapter in their lives.
