In a seaside town, a concerned teacher asks Jonathan to look after his rebellious classmate Shane. The obligation slowly grows into a warm, lasting friendship as they grow up side by side. Jonathan remains studious while Shane channels his energy into basketball and a roguish charm.

A decade has passed: Jonathan stays on the academic track while Shane finds his calling on the basketball court. They remain close friends despite diverging paths and ambitions. The coastal town remains their shared backdrop.

Carrie, a Taiwan-born schoolgirl from Hong Kong, transfers to their school after a family disagreement. She quickly befriends Jonathan and persuades him to join a secret day-trip to Taipei. That evening, she seduces him in a sleazy hotel, though Jonathan leaves distraught.
