Emmanuelle, Natalie Uher, is a free-spirited woman who makes erotic arthouse films and runs a dance studio out of her loft in Paris.

The movie opens with a glossy, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous–style montage of Cannes, narrated in a documentary tone that gives a broad view of the famous film festival. A film within a film unfolds as Emmanuelle premieres her latest work, Love Express, in Cannes, and the screening quickly becomes a public scandal. After the Q&A, her producer introduces her to Prince Rajid, a wealthy despot who owns the fictional Arab country of Benglagistan and is clearly obsessed with Emmanuelle, hoping to premiere her film in his homeland.

Outside, a crowd of male fans swarms around the radiant star, desperate for a touch. The scene escalates as they strip her of her clothes, and she escapes by leaping onto a departing boat. Her unexpected savior is Charles D. Foster, a young millionaire who disapproves of Emmanuelle’s erotic films. The duo soon falls into a passionate romance after a night aboard his yacht.

After a quarrel with Foster, Emmanuelle travels to Benglagistan to promote the film, where she befriends Eddie, an Indiana Jones–style danger-seeker. Rajid kidnaps her to place her in his harem of 50 wives. Eddie helps her escape, and they race into the jungle. Charles responds by sending an army helicopter to assist her; Eddie dies in the ensuing shootout, but Emmanuelle manages to escape with the helicopter.

Emmanuelle later joins Charles on a midnight flight, where they share champagne and make love. The plane falters and crashes into the mountains near Las Vegas. Rescued, she returns home to mourn her lost lover, only to receive a note and flowers that reveal Foster is alive and still deeply in love with her.
