Almost five years after Piccolo Jr. was defeated by Goku at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, the once fearsome fighter trains in isolation, sharpening his powers and plotting for what comes next. A shadowy group of mysterious warriors launches an ambush, and their attack ripples through a quiet household: Chichi and her father, the Ox King, are assaulted along with their son Gohan while Goku is away fishing. The assailants are led by the impish Garlic Jr., who wants to reclaim the four-star Dragon Ball that rests on Gohan’s hat and senses a remarkable potential in the boy that he hopes to bend to his will rather than extinguish.
As Garlic Jr. gathers the remaining Dragon Balls, he calls forth the eternal dragon, Shenron, and makes a bold wish for immortality, reshaping the balance of power. With this new, almost unstoppable advantage, Goku prepares to mount a rescue mission for his son, only to be challenged by the ancient wisdom of Earth’s guardian, Kami-sama. Kami explains a long-simmering feud: centuries earlier, he and Garlic Jr.’s father, Garlic, vied for the post of Guardian of the Earth, and Kami emerged victorious. In retaliation, Garlic unleashed a demonic invasion until Kami halted the threat and asserted his authority over the planet’s protection.
The search for Gohan continues, and the earthbound allies close in on Garlic Jr.’s forces. Kuririn and Piccolo arrive to intervene, with Piccolo overpowering the henchman Sansho while Goku handles the other two goons, Ginger and Nicky. Even as the tide turns in favor of the heroes, Kami is temporarily bested by Garlic Jr., until a timely rescue by Goku and Kuririn shifts the balance once more and restores hope.
The clash intensifies as Garlic Jr. reveals a darker, muscular form born from his immortality, forcing the two stubborn rivals, Goku and Piccolo, to set aside their mutual distrust and join forces to bring him down. In a climactic surge, Garlic Jr. opens a gateway to a void known as the Dead Zone, a dimension of darkness that threatens to swallow all defiance. Fueled by rage, young Gohan taps into a hidden well of power, hurling Garlic Jr. into his own vortex and sealing him away for all eternity.
In the aftermath, Gohan’s astonishing potential leaves a lasting impression on both his father and Piccolo, who must come to terms with the new balance of strength in their world. Though Garlic Jr. is trapped and the immediate danger fades, the Dead Zone remains a looming reminder of the peril that once emerged, and Garlic Jr. continues to seek a way back to the world he scorned.
This story unfolds with a careful blend of family stakes, ancient feuds, and a resurgence of power that tests loyalties and pushes everyone to their limits, all while the Dragon Balls and Shenron’s legend hover in the background as symbols of wishful hope and the uncertain fate of those who seek to bend fate to their will.
