As Whis rouses Beerus from his slumber, the God of Destruction awakens to the startling news that Goku, a mortal warrior with an incredible capacity for growth, has defeated Frieza. This revelation intrigues Beerus, particularly due to a prophecy from thirty-nine years ago spoken by an Oracle Fish, which foretold the arrival of a potent adversary named the Super Saiyan God. Compelled by this prophecy, Beerus ventures to locate Goku on King Kai’s planet. Upon his arrival, Goku eagerly challenges Beerus to a fight. However, despite his valiant effort and a brief transformation into Super Saiyan 3, Goku is easily overpowered, leaving Beerus disheartened and prompting him to continue his search for worthy opponents.

Back on Earth, the celebration of Bulma’s birthday is disrupted by the unexpected visit of Beerus. Understanding the threat posed by the God of Destruction, Vegeta sets aside his arrogance to placate him and invites him to enjoy Earth’s delightful cuisine alongside Whis. The party takes a chaotic turn when the Pilaf Gang tries to steal the magical Dragon Balls but fails spectacularly, accidentally injuring Videl in the process. In an effort to heal her, Dende discovers that she is expecting a child with Gohan.

As Beerus grows increasingly impatient with Buu’s refusal to share his pudding, he unleashes chaos, indicating his formidable power. Attempts by Android 18, Tien Shinhan, Piccolo, and Gohan to quell his rampage result in their swift defeat at the hands of the God of Destruction. Not to be deterred, Vegeta, Goten, and Trunks take turns challenging Beerus, including a time when Gotenks is unleashed through their fusion, but ultimately, they too succumb to his overwhelming strength. Disheartened by the turmoil at her party, Bulma chastises Beerus before striking him in frustration, leading Beerus to retaliate. Vegeta, consumed by rage, activates his Super Saiyan 2 form, but he is defeated once more by Beerus. As Beerus prepares to obliterate the planet, Goku arrives, pleading for additional time to learn more about the Super Saiyan God and find a way to contend with the formidable deity.

With the Dragon Balls resonating with Shenron’s timeless energy, the ancient dragon reveals that attaining the Super Saiyan God form demands the coordinated strength of six pure-hearted Saiyans. This fusion of Goku’s power, Vegeta’s resolve, Gohan’s spirit, Trunks’ determination, Goten’s enthusiasm, and the unborn child’s energy ultimately fosters a remarkable transformation, elevating Goku to the extraordinary heights of the Super Saiyan God. Armed with this newfound strength, he faces Beerus in an exhilarating battle that pushes both combatants to their utmost limits.

During their fierce tussle, Goku’s Super Saiyan God form enables him to endure Beerus’ powerful attacks, yet the inevitable time constraint compels him to revert to his regular Super Saiyan state. Nevertheless, the residual power of his godlike form instills him with incredible determination, allowing him to withstand Beerus’ relentless onslaught.

As fatigue weighs heavily upon him, Goku contemplates the dire repercussions that defeat would have on those he cherishes most. In this moment of reflection, he gathers the strength to absorb Beerus’ immense energy assault, momentarily regaining his Super Saiyan God form. Ultimately overwhelmed by exhaustion, Goku comes to terms with his limitations and reluctantly acknowledges his defeat.

Amidst the tumultuous clash, Beerus recognizes Goku’s true character, crediting him as the second-strongest opponent he has encountered, a title shared only with Whis, his esteemed martial arts mentor who surpasses even Beerus in skill. As Beerus prepares to depart, he reveals the existence of other universes, each presided over by its own God of Destruction, expanding the horizons of the cosmos.

With newfound respect for Goku’s unwavering spirit, Beerus spares the Earth, choosing to obliterate only a small rock as a token of his intent. As he and Whis take their leave, they vanish into the cosmos, leaving behind a transformed Goku, forever altered by his encounter with the God of Destruction.
