Jonathan Harker journeys from England to Count Dracula's crumbling castle in the Carpathian Mountains, hoping to catalogue Dracula's vast library. His initial curiosity is tempered by the unsettling atmosphere and Dracula's courteous but eerie hospitality. As the journey continues, the distance and isolation of the castle become increasingly oppressive.

Harker soon realizes he has become a prisoner, cut off from the outside world. He witnesses Dracula's nocturnal routines and strange energies that hint at something darker beneath the surface. The castle's layout and Dracula's insistence on keeping him inside heighten the sense of captivity.

One night Harker ventures out against Dracula's orders and falls under the Brides of Dracula's spell, nearly losing himself to their predatory charm. Dracula intervenes at the last moment, sparing Harker for his own purposes. Harker eventually escapes the castle, but the experience seals his sense that he is being used by a dangerous, immortal master.

After Harker's escape, Dracula turns his attention to Mina Murray and Lucy Westenra. He begins to move through English shadows, setting the stage for a spreading danger that will pull together the London-based professionals to confront him.

Renfield, a disturbed inmate, encounters Dracula and becomes a conduit for his presence. He acts as a motion sensor for the vampire's proximity, providing clues as to Dracula's whereabouts. The strange dynamic foreshadows the coming confrontation between vampires and humans.

Lucy Westenra's health deteriorates mysteriously, alarming her suitors and Nurse/Dr. Seward. He calls in Professor Van Helsing, who senses a supernatural cause behind Lucy's condition. This marks the start of a doctor-vampire investigation beyond conventional medicine.

Van Helsing identifies a vampiric cause for Lucy's illness but keeps the truth from Seward to avoid shaking his confidence. He begins experimental treatment, including blood transfusions, but these efforts struggle against Lucy's unearthly ailment. The tension grows as Lucy's condition remains ominous.

Late one night, Lucy and her mother are attacked by a wolf, and Mrs. Westenra dies of fright. Lucy's health swiftly collapses, and she dies soon after. The events mark a turning point as the group senses a vampiric awakening.

Lucy is buried, but soon whispers of a vampiric 'bloofer lady' emerge, terrorizing the village. Van Helsing and the suitors locate her, confront her vampiric form, and stake her heart, behead her, and fill her mouth with garlic. The ritual finally ends her vampiric threat.

Jonathan Harker recovers in Budapest and then returns to join Mina Murray in the struggle against Dracula. The two lovers ally with Seward, Van Helsing, and the others as they consolidate the effort to stop the vampire threat. The coalition now focuses on destroying Dracula to protect Mina and England.

Dracula returns and visits Mina, biting her at least three times and feeding her his blood, creating a spiritual bond to control her. Mina slowly becomes enthralled by the vampire, threatening to be lost to his influence. The group recognizes that Dracula must be killed to break the bond.

Because of the blood bond, Mina drifts between consciousness and trance, sometimes communicating with Dracula in flashes. Van Helsing uses hypnosis to detect Dracula's movements and guide the pursuit. The bond gradually weakens as they press toward Dracula's Transylvanian fortress.

Dracula flees back to his castle in Transylvania as Van Helsing's group closes in. They pursue him across lands and reach his fortress just before sundown, ready to strike. The final confrontation leads to Dracula's downfall.

In the climactic fight, the hunters kill Dracula by shearing his throat and stabbing the heart, lifting his spell over Mina. Quincey Morris is killed by Gypsies hired to return Dracula to his castle. With Dracula defeated and Mina freed, the survivors sail back to England.
