Double Take

Daryl Chase notices a street brawl between Freddy Tiffany and a knife-wielding thief while commuting to his New York City job. Freddy defends himself but nearly gets arrested for theft until Daryl and the doorman intervene. Daryl also offers Freddy $105 to cover his injuries, not knowing the full danger surrounding him.

Back at the office, Daryl and his boss CA uncover a large deposit to the owner of a soda company that supposedly doesn't exist. Shari, Daryl's assistant, confirms the deposit and hints at laundering. The find hints at a deep criminal conspiracy behind the money.

During Chloe's fashion show, Daryl tells CA that the soda company is a fabrication and that they may be laundering funds. He worries about becoming another target if they pursue the money. The exchange sets the stage for exposing the larger criminal network.

Thomas Chela, the depositor, arrives with his girlfriend Maque Sanchez to express gratitude for catching the deposit. Their presence ties the money to real people and ups the stakes for Daryl. The scene cements the intertwining of clients and criminals.

Freddy suddenly dances on stage with Chloe, much to Daryl's irritation. The moment blurs the line between ally and suspect and heightens the tension surrounding Freddy's true identity. The show shifts from celebration to uneasy suspicion.

After the show, a man is shot dead by CIA agents McReady and Martinez. They reveal the victim was an assassin tied to a drug cartel who made a large deposit to Daryl's bank. McReady explains that he and Martinez will protect Daryl and take him toward Mexico for safety.

The next day Daryl spots the drug dealers at his office and pursues them, but they vanish in the chase. The sight confirms that powerful criminals want Daryl silenced. The danger forces Daryl to stay on the move and seek safety.

Daryl travels to Shari's house and finds her dead, and another assassin shoots at him along with two officers. Neighbors witness Daryl armed and on edge. He contacts McReady to warn him that his life is in immediate danger.

At Penn Station, Freddy convinces Daryl to swap clothes, turning Daryl into Freddy and vice versa. On the train, a pursuer is knocked unconscious, and Freddy reads a newspaper column about a $100,000 reward for Daryl. The two begin to suspect each other’s motives.

Daryl, now posing as Freddy, reaches the Texas–Mexico border and spots Freddy's wanted poster for Quintana's murder. He ditches his car, is shot at, and then reunites with Freddy at a gas station before heading to a motel hideout. The chase pushes them toward the larger conspiracy.

At a rural motel near an emu ranch, Freddy reveals he planted a transmitter on Daryl to keep him from being lost to the authorities. McReady is undercover and hints that Freddy's past as an agent complicates matters. Daryl struggles to discern truth while under constant surveillance.

Freddy and Daryl confront Minty Gutierrez and the conspirators at Quintana's mansion. Minty reveals more than $600 million in frozen funds and proposes turning the mobsters over to the DOJ. The confession reframes who is pulling the strings and who will benefit from the money.

A climactic shootout erupts among Minty, Gradney, Martinez, McReady, Freddy, Daryl, and Maque. Minty is killed by Freddy; Gradney and Martinez are killed, and McReady is fatally shot after Delores bites him and he falls. The chain of betrayal collapses as the truth comes out.

The morning after, CA is arrested and Shari reveals she’s alive and an FBI agent who helped Daryl escape. Daryl realizes Freddy's warnings were correct and that the criminals are being brought to justice. The truth closes the circle on the immediate danger.

Daryl and Freddy are now friends again, and Chloe and Maque enjoy a moment at the beach. A strike team suddenly storms the beach signaling that danger remains and the world Daryl inhabits remains fragile. The film ends with a hint of unresolved threats.
