After the heist, two of the gang members betray their leader, Patrick Koster, absconding with the diamond they all sought. This act of treachery sets off a chain of events leading to chaos within the gang as their plan begins to unravel.

Fast forward to ten years later, just before Thanksgiving, where we meet Dr. Nathan R. Conrad, a prominent child psychiatrist in Manhattan. On this fateful day, he receives an invitation from his friend, Dr. Louis Sachs, to assess a troubled young woman named Elisabeth Burrows.

At Bridgeview Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Sachs explains Elisabeth's condition, detailing her violent outbursts and severe injury marks. The psychiatrist finds himself puzzled as Elisabeth cryptically reveals that he desires what 'they' wanted, leaving him with more questions than answers.

Tragedy strikes as a young woman is found dead in the Hudson River. The autopsy reveals the victim had been murdered, breaking the case open as Detective Sandra Cassidy uncovers connections to other recent homicides, intensifying the mystery.

That evening, Patrick, fresh out of prison, kidnaps Nathan's daughter, Jessie, using the distraction of Nathan caring for his injured wife, Aggie. Nathan's realization of Jessie's disappearance unfolds panic as he discovers his phone lines have been compromised, leaving him helpless.
