Shakthivel’s family is on a mission to find him a suitable bride, but with a distinctive condition: his future wife must earn more than him. His relatives are growing increasingly impatient with the lengthy search, yet his sister, Gayathri, insists they need to find someone soon. Shakthivel, who works in the IT sector, is in the process of building a lavish house, relying heavily on a substantial loan, while also borrowing funds from a local loan shark at high interest rates. Hoping to increase their monthly income, he takes a gamble by borrowing ₹1 crore on the advice of his colleague, Arjun “Leg”, and invests the money in a potentially lucrative venture.

In an unexpected turn, Shakthivel’s family arranges a meeting with Shivani, an Indo-American woman, without informing him first. Shivani openly shares her stance on marriage, stating she does not wish to work afterward because she dislikes being chased for her wealth, a sentiment accepted by Shakthivel’s mother, Valliyammai, who welcomes her into the family as a daughter. However, the family conceals Shakthivel’s true condition—she doesn’t work—from him, instead telling him she earns ₹1.25 lakhs per month. Trusting their word, Shakthivel agrees to marry her. On their wedding night, he tries to impress Shivani by presenting a detailed PowerPoint of their financial plans based on their incomes, which irritates her. Shivani remains firm in her decision not to work, emphasizing her values over monetary wealth. As their relationship develops, tensions grow. Shakthivel often clashes with Shivani and his parents over the secrecy and his conditions for marriage. His life takes a dramatic turn when he rescues a woman named Shalini from a group of molesters managed by her dishonest employer. She soon joins his company, providing some relief. However, his troubles worsen when one of his investments turns out to be a scam, leading to bankruptcy and the collapse of the company. Unable to access critical project data, he faces an investigation and loses his job. The situation worsens when he becomes entangled with a local don who lent him money at exorbitant interest rates. In desperation, and with no other options, Shakthivel is forced to pawn Shivani’s jewelry.

Seeing the dire circumstances, Shivani decides to work outside the home to contribute to the family’s income. Meanwhile, Shakthivel traces Arjun “Leg” and confronts him about the missing funds. His investigation points him toward Punniyakodi, the owner of a fraudulent chit fund. When Punniyakodi threatens him and refuses to return the money, Shakthivel files a police complaint. His situation takes a distressing turn when he faints on the road and is rescued by a sanitary worker. Interactions with this worker and a witty child in a temple help Shakthivel realize that his obsession with money had blinded him to the importance of relationships and family. With this newfound understanding, he returns home, deeply remorseful, and apologizes for his behavior. He thanks his family for their patience and love, acknowledging that his focus on financial gain had caused him to neglect them. He pleads with them to forgive and reconnect.

Eventually, the family reunites, and Shakthivel’s life starts to stabilize. His colleague, Cynthia Lourde, helps clear his name when she discovers that his manager falsely framed him, leading to his reinstatement at work. With a changed heart, Shakthivel asks Shivani to stay at home permanently, but she suggests working for a few more years before making that decision. Meanwhile, the fraudulent chit fund operators threaten Shakthivel and his family, demanding they withdraw their case in exchange for his money. Refusing to cower, Shakthivel insists on justice, asserting that others who were cheated also deserve proper redress. As the story concludes, Shivani decides to sell her properties in the USA to help pay off her husband’s debts, symbolizing her unwavering support. This narrative underscores themes of love, trust, and the importance of family over material wealth, highlighting how true happiness often lies beyond monetary success.
