Death at a Funeral

The story begins on the day of Daniel's father's funeral, setting the stage for a mix of emotions. Daniel and his wife Jane are faced with organizing the funeral while contemplating their future away from the family home.

Daniel's brother Robert arrives from New York City, but instead of helping with the funeral costs, he prefers to spend his money on a First Class ticket. This creates tension as Daniel struggles to shoulder the financial burden alone.

As guests begin to arrive, Daniel is preoccupied with preparing a eulogy. The expectations grow heavier as everyone anticipates that the acclaimed writer Robert will speak on behalf of the family.

Martha, Daniel's cousin, tries to calm her fiancé Simon's nerves by giving him what she thinks is Valium. Unbeknownst to her, it is actually a powerful hallucinogenic drug, setting off a series of chaotic events.

During the funeral service, Simon, affected by the hallucinogenic, causes chaos by tipping over the coffin. This dramatic act leads to panic among the attendees, including the shocked members of his and Martha's families.

In the aftermath of Simon's outburst, Martha is confronted by her father Victor, who forbids her from marrying Simon. This confrontation underscores the pressure of family expectations on Martha.

As Simon panics, he locks himself in the bathroom. Martha desperately tries to get him to open the door, all while fending off unwelcome advances from Justin, a man from her past.

In a state of confusion, Simon climbs onto the roof, threatening to jump. He believes he saw Martha and Justin share a kiss, intensifying his feelings of betrayal and despair.

In an effort to calm Simon down, Martha reveals she is pregnant with his child. This shockingly emotional admission diffuses the tension, but also complicates the situation further.

A dwarf named Peter unexpectedly introduces himself to Daniel, claiming he was their father's lover. This revelation adds a layer of complexity as Peter expresses his resentment over being excluded from the will.

Peter attempts to blackmail Daniel and Robert for £15,000 while showing them compromising photographs. The brothers, caught off guard, choose to bind and gag Peter in a panic.

After consuming the same hallucinogenic drug they intended for Peter, he accidentally jumps around the living room and falls, hitting his head. His apparent death adds another layer of urgency to the chaotic situation.

With Peter seemingly dead, Daniel and Robert make the drastic decision to place his body in their father's coffin to avoid complications. This grim decision showcases their desperation amidst the chaos.

As the service resumes, a still-alive Peter abruptly jumps out of the coffin, shocking everyone. This outburst reveals not only his survival but also exposes the compromising photographs to all present, including their mother.

Later that night, after the chaos subsides, Robert expresses his intention to take their mother to New York. However, this conversation is interrupted when Jane reveals that Uncle Alfie is also having a breakdown due to the earlier events.
