Steve Adams, a theology student, begins to suspect he may be a vampire after a string of blood-draining murders in his town. He notices odd cravings and uncanny strength, and the pattern of killings seems to align with an ancient legend. The fear in the town escalates as the crimes continue.

A bumbling English inspector, Butterfield, is hired by the local detective to assist with the 27 murders. Butterfield claims Dracula’s influence fits the killings and outlines a vampire profile, but the detective cuts him off and tells him to get to work.

A couple on a motorcycle approaches Steve and invites him to church, but laughs and tries to rob him with a knife. Steve suddenly transforms into a vampire and hypnotizes them, driving them to crash off a cliff. This showcases his powers and foreshadows Dracula’s reach.

At the police station, Butterfield explains how Dracula is linked to the murders and why the cases fit a vampiric profile. The detective interrupts, ordering him to stop talking and start working on the case.

Butterfield and Steve meet for a drink with the detective, and it’s revealed that Steve is the detective’s best friend who has a talent for unshelling peanuts and a surprising devotion to the case. The moment deepens trust but also raises questions about Steve’s calm façade.

Steve learns his preacher father has a worsening heart condition and can no longer give Steve the monthly blood transfusions he needs to survive. The health issue intensifies Steve’s fear of his own dependence and vulnerability.

A flashback reveals Steve’s mother died giving birth, a doctor diagnosed the baby with a blood disease, and Amy, the mother’s friend, mysteriously disappeared. These details foreshadow the supernatural ties surrounding Steve.

While driving, Steve’s strange behavior alarms his father, who suffers a fatal heart attack on the road. Before dying, the preacher manages to give Steve a letter from Amy, deepening the mystery and tying Amy to Steve’s fate.

Deeper in the woods, Steve encounters a young couple kissing and murders them both. The killings underline his disturbing transformation and push the investigation forward.

Butterfield locates the other two bodies in the woods and tries to question Steve, but the local detective blocks any interrogation of his best friend. The clash highlights how personal loyalties complicate justice.

Steve follows Amy’s letter to her house, where Zork, a handless servant, explains the ring that vanishes when Steve becomes a vampire and reappears when he returns to normal. Amy then urges him to go to the museum to confront Dracula.

In a cavern beneath the museum, Steve finds Dracula in a coffin with a stake in his heart. He removes the stake, resurrecting Dracula and Steve’s mother; Dracula tries to hypnotize Steve, but Steve defeats him and Dracula and the mother vanish in smoke.

Steve delivers a sermon for his father, cringing when a girl in the pew pricks her finger. The moment hints at the town’s superstition and Steve’s own weakness.

After the funeral, Butterfield arrests Steve, citing peanut shells found in vomit and Steve’s reaction to the finger prick. Steve asks for minutes to pray, delivers a passionate plea for forgiveness, and uses a magical ring to kill Amy and replace Zork's hands.

In the final act, Steve dies on the floor of the church after confronting his identity and the ring’s power.
