Dead Men Walking

Travis Dee is fighting a horde of zombies when a spray of infected blood hits his face. The contact exposes him to the contagion that will prove deadly. The outbreak's momentum shifts as he starts showing signs of illness during the ongoing chaos.

Travis tries to convince the press and police that the outbreak was caused by an experimental bio-toxin. Authorities remain skeptical and unable to confirm his theory. As a result, he is sentenced to Haywood Maximum Security Prison.

BBC worker Samantha Beckett is dispatched to the prison to gather more information about Travis's claims. She aims to verify the toxin theory and collect evidence from the facility. Her arrival marks the beginning of outside scrutiny entering the prison walls.

Travis and the new inmates are lined up for evaluation by Lieutenant Sweeney. Sweeney proclaims Travis is 'top of the food chain' within the prison, asserting his authority. Travis's coughing and pale appearance foreshadow the imminent health crisis.

Because of his failing health, Travis is sent to the infirmary for a medical check. The infirmary becomes the first stage where the staff confronts the possibility that something is very wrong. The mood among staff darkens as suspicion grows.

Johnny is brought to Warden Mahler's office, where Mahler warns him not to act stupid or provoke the guards. The exchange reveals the Warden's strict, no-nonsense approach to discipline. This moment sets the stage for Johnny's later choices under pressure.

Samantha examines Travis and discovers that the blood evidence suggests he died hours earlier, contradicting Sweeney's account of the situation. The discrepancy forces the team to reexamine the timeline and the nature of the threat. Trust in the official narrative begins to erode.

Sweeney, Jenkins and Mahler devise a plan to move through the building, gather uninfected staff, and barricade themselves in the staffroom. They intend to leave the uninfected inmates to die in the chaos, a plan Johnny opposes. The leadership fractures as moral lines are drawn.

On the way back to his cell, Johnny knocks out a guard and takes his gun to run for the outside. He pushes toward freedom as the prison spirals into chaos. This act puts him on a collision course with the others’ plans.

Sweeney, Mahler, Keith, Jenkins and many other guards reach the officers’ office to coordinate a response and summon the National Guard. The plan still centers on containing the outbreak and keeping inmates confined to their cells. Tensions rise as the situation deteriorates around them.

The cell blocks are breached as the infected flood through, turning inmates and staff into zombies. Guards attempt to hold their ground, but the chaos overwhelms them. In the midst of the carnage, Sweeney shoots the zombified Mahler, recognizing the transformation too late to save them.

Samantha and Johnny push toward an exit, but Johnny is bitten and sacrifices himself to give Samantha a chance to escape. Samantha flees, and in the chaos she confronts Sweeney, now a zombie, and kills him. The escape effort shifts into a desperate struggle for survival.

In the yard, Jenkins is bitten by a zombie and Samantha ends his suffering to spare him from a prolonged death. The brutality of the outbreak becomes personal for the survivors. Mercy is scarce as the infection spreads unchecked.

As the confusion rages on, a sniper mistakes Samantha for a zombie and shoots her. Her death underscores the peril and misfortune that accompany information-seeking amid a full-blown outbreak. The immediate crisis ends with a tragic, unintended casualty.
