In 2003, Kolkata is rocked by a string of gruesome murders. Probir Roy Chowdhury, a renowned but ill-tempered serial-killings expert, is assigned to the case. At a bar, he encounters a young, equally hot-tempered inspector, Bijoy Poddar, sparking an uneasy alliance.

A series of killings unfolds in Kolkata with a modus operandi inspired by the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. The victims are influential figures accused of crimes or corruption. Probir and Poddar begin collaborating to unravel the killer's motive and pattern.

A young psychiatrist, Moitreyee Ghatak, approaches the police, claiming to have identified the killer. She offers insights based on her patients and observations. The investigation gains a new lead as Biswaroop Bardhan enters the frame.

Biswaroop Bardhan, Moitreyee's patient, believes he is Kalki, the tenth avatar of Vishnu. He justifies the murders as moral cleansing and targets those he deems evil. His belief system pushes the case toward a mythic, personal motive.

As the case deepens, Poddar forms a working bond with Moitreyee, while Probir is haunted by the murder of his wife and son years ago. His bitterness and alcoholism strain their partnership, but they eventually reconcile.

With Moitreyee providing information on Biswaroop, Probir suggests using her as bait to draw the killer out. Poddar objects, arguing the plan is dangerous, while Moitreyee agrees to participate under police watch.

Biswaroop confronts Moitreyee at her residence, accusing her of betraying him and exposing his identity to the police. Probir and Poddar rush to intervene as Biswaroop seizes hostages and delivers a chilling monologue about his mission. Probir shoots Biswaroop dead at close range.

In a shocking twist, it is revealed that Moitreyee is Biswaroop's sister, linking the killer’s vendetta to a deeply personal family history. The revelation reframes the earlier violence as a fallout of kinship and trauma.

Moitreyee explains how her father was murdered by a powerful businessman and how she was raped by that same man. This trauma fuels Biswaroop's vow to cleanse society and drives the duo to plot revenge by murdering a promoter to cover the businessman’s murder.

The scheme spirals out of control as the killings escalate. Moitreyee grows haunted by guilt and fear, realizing she has become complicit in murder. She ultimately decides to seek help from the police.

After Moitreyee seeks police help, she is unable to escape the consequences of the plan and falls to her death at a cliff, leaving Poddar distraught. Probir attempts to contact Poddar but it is too late to intervene.

With the killer stopped and the truth exposed, Poddar is emotionally scarred by the events while Probir files the final reports. He offers a quiet, cold farewell and urges Poddar to drink to cope with the trauma.

The narrative shifts to 2004, showing Poddar drinking to drown his sorrows after losing Moitreyee. Nevertheless, Probir and Poddar are brought back to tackle a new serial-killings case in Kolkata, suggesting the cycle may begin anew.
