During the chaotic timeframe of the Vietnam War, a group of Black U.S. Army soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division known as the 'Bloods' operates in the conflict-ridden regions. The soldiers include Paul, Otis, Eddie, Melvin, and their squad leader Norman, whose experiences are shaped by the turmoil around them.

The Bloods stumble upon the wreckage of a CIA airplane that has crashed. Inside, they discover a cache of gold bars intended as compensation for the Lahu people, igniting their greed and desire for wealth.

Tempted by the fortune they found, the soldiers make a pact to bury the gold for later retrieval. Their excitement is short-lived as they face the harsh realities of war looming over them.

Tragedy strikes when Norman meets his end during a brutal Vietnamese counter-attack. His loss weighs heavily on the remaining Bloods, forever altering their mission and their bond.

A devastating napalm strike obliterates vital landmarks, making it impossible for the Bloods to locate the buried gold. The scars of war and loss become the backdrop for their unresolved quest.

In the present day, Paul, Otis, Eddie, and Melvin reunite in Ho Chi Minh City after news of a landslide uncovers the tail of the downed aircraft. With renewed hope, they set out to recover both the gold and the remains of their fallen friend, Norman.

During their journey, Otis reconnects with Tiên, a former lover from the war days. He discovers that he is the father of her adult child, bringing an emotional twist to their reunion.

The Bloods meet Desroche, a French entrepreneur who offers his assistance in smuggling the gold once they retrieve it. This encounter introduces the possibility of financial gain, yet also foreshadows potential danger.

Paul's son, David, decides to join the team, despite their strained relationship. His presence complicates matters as he grapples with his father's past while seeking his own identity.

As they venture into the countryside, Paul confronts his own demons stemming from post-traumatic stress disorder. This journey becomes a means for Paul to face his memories, struggles, and regrets about the war.
