In 1953, Zafar Khan falls in love with Salma, but her father refuses the match. His jealousy and criminal behavior land him in trouble, leading to a ten-year prison sentence. The seeds of his vendetta against Salma's family are sown as he contemplates revenge from behind bars.

When he is released after his term, Zafar discovers Salma has married Aslam Khan. Enraged, he murders Salma's father and floods the region to destroy her life as part of his revenge.

The catastrophe devastates Salma's region and Salma herself suffers memory loss from the trauma. In the chaos she is separated from her young son Iqbal. Zafar abducts Salma, consolidating control over her life.

On a railway platform, Iqbal tries to rush after Salma as she boards a train, but he slips and the train departs. The moment marks a permanent separation between mother and son.

Zafar abducts Salma and publicly proclaims that she is his wife. He also adopts an infant named Sunny from a Kanpur orphanage for Salma to raise under his influence.

Iqbal is reunited with his uncle, who survived the flood but lost his wife and son. In a fight, the uncle loses his right arm, and Iqbal vows to be his uncle's right arm from that day forward, deepening their bond.

Twenty years pass and Iqbal has grown into a dashing leader of the local coolies. He is at the center of a brutal incident with Mr. Puri, ending in a brief imprisonment before his release on the same day. He leads a major labor strike that cripples the station.

Sunny, a young reporter, covers the strike and encounters Iqbal. While talking, Iqbal realizes Sunny's mother is Salma, linking his quest for Salma to the past. This revelation fuels his renewed pursuit.

Iqbal rushes to Salma's home to reclaim her, but she does not recognize him due to her memory loss. Zafar's agents beat Iqbal, and Salma is taken to a psychiatrist where electric shocks are used to erase memories. Sunny threatens to publish Zafar's crimes if Salma isn't returned.

Iqbal befriends Sunny and falls in love with Julie D'Costa, while Sunny pursues his own romance with Deepa. Aslam is released from prison after being wrongly accused, and Julie suspects he may have killed her father before learning the truth.

Coolies uncover a banking and housing scam against them. Salma returns with her memories intact and testifies against Zafar during the election stand-off. Amid the crowd, Aslam is revealed as Iqbal's father, and Sunny's birthmark confirms his link to Iqbal's family.

The family is briefly reunited, but Zafar shoots Aslam and accidentally kills Iqbal's uncle during Salma's abduction. Iqbal and Sunny chase Zafar, killing Mr. Puri and Vicky along the way.

Iqbal corners Zafar at Haji Ali Dargah. The shroud flies onto Iqbal's chest and he faces Zafar with divine resolve, reciting parts of the azaan as he is shot repeatedly. He pushes Zafar off the parapet, killing him, before collapsing into Salma's arms.

The crowd prays for Iqbal's recovery as he survives his injuries. The family—Salma, Iqbal, Sunny, and Aslam—rebuilds their lives and the community begins to heal, completing the arc of vengeance and reunion.
