Cameron Poe, a devoted husband, finds himself in a dire situation when he must defend his pregnant wife, Tricia. In a moment of desperation, he fatally injures an intoxicated man, leading to his arrest and subsequent trial.

Despite his honorable service as a U.S. Army Ranger, Poe faces a biased judge who convicts him of manslaughter. He receives a harsh sentence of seven to ten years in prison, tearing him away from his family.

While incarcerated, Poe strives to improve himself, keeping in constant contact with his wife and daughter. As the years pass, he dreams of reuniting with them and becoming the father he longs to be.

Poe boards the C-123 airplane, known as the 'Jailbird,' along with a group of notorious prisoners, including the dangerous Cyrus Grissom and Nathan 'Diamond Dog' Jones. This seemingly routine prisoner transfer quickly turns ominous.

U.S. Marshal Vince Larkin is approached by DEA agent Duncan Malloy, who insists on placing an undercover agent on the flight for intelligence. Ignoring Larkin’s concerns, Malloy smuggles a firearm onboard, igniting tensions among the inmates.

Once the plane is airborne, the notorious criminals spring into action. With the help of a distraction, they overpower the guards, taking control of the flight, which sends shockwaves through the aircraft.

During the chaos, undercover agent Sims finds himself in a perilous situation as Poe tries to warn him. Unfortunately, his efforts are in vain, leading to Sims’ tragic demise at the hands of the inmates.

The situation escalates as the plane stops for refueling, allowing more dangerous inmates, including drug lord Francisco Cindino, to board. Tensions rise as Poe discovers a fellow inmate's body trapped in the landing gear.
