Comet in Moominland

During a rainy evening, Muskrat appears at the Moominhouse's front door, seeking shelter as his riverbank home was destroyed earlier that day by Moominpappa's bridge. He warns that the blackened sky is caused by soot from outer space, implying a looming threat. The group begins to discuss the existential danger from space.

Moominpappa gets an idea to visit the astronomical observatory in the Lonely Mountains, where a telescope can reveal distant space objects. The characters decide to climb the mountains to get a better look at the cosmos and the potential threat. Along the way, they meet Snufkin, who has heard about a possible comet impact.

Snufkin joins the group after hearing about the potential comet. During their journey, Moomin finds a golden anklet, which Snufkin recognizes as belonging to Snorkmaiden. The group continues their ascent towards the observatory, preparing for the possibility of a cosmic disaster.

At the observatory, the group learns that the comet might collide with Earth in just two days. This urgent discovery heightens everyone's anxiety as they realize they must act quickly. They decide to return home to warn their loved ones and seek shelter.

On their way back, Moomin rescues Snorkmaiden from a giant carnivorous plant, which serves to deepen their bond. After the rescue, Snorkmaiden and Moomin fall in love, adding a romantic layer to the adventure. The group now includes the Snorkmaiden as they rush to find safety.

The group meets Hemulen, and during a hurricane, they flee to Moominhouse using Snufkin's tent. The chaotic weather emphasizes the urgency of their situation. They aim to reach Moominvalley before the comet strikes, seeking refuge from the impending impact.

They move to a cave that Sniff has discovered, attempting to find safety from the imminent disaster. During the escape, Sniff is distracted by a kitten and a piece of cake, causing him to get separated from the group. This shows the increasing tension and chaos among the characters.

Sniff, paralyzed by fear, is eventually found by Moomin and Snufkin. They carry him into the cave just minutes before the expected impact of the comet. Their quick action prevents tragedy, illustrating their friendship and bravery in the face of danger.

As the comet approaches, it suddenly alters its course and avoids impact with Earth. This miraculous turn of events relieves everyone, turning despair into relief. The group celebrates their survival on the beach the next morning.
