What Happens in College Coach: Full Plot Summary

Calvert College begins to treat football as a serious priority, even as Dr. Sargeant, the school's president, objects. Coach Gore is brought in and given broad latitude to run the program, using that freedom to pay money to standout players. His obsession with winning becomes so intense that he ignores his wife, Claire Gore.

The president's son, Phil Sargeant, is also an outstanding athlete but is more interested in chemistry. He is persuaded to join the team and becomes the fourth member of the 'Four Aces' who help steer Calvert to early victories.

As the players gain fame, a sense of entitlement grows, including favoritism in the classroom. Buck Weaver Buck Weaver is one of the stars and even makes a pass at the coach's wife.

Phil grows offended when he is given a passing grade for a chemistry test he did not finish. He quarrels with the coach and quits the team.

Gore catches his wife dining with a player and kicks Buck Weaver off the squad.

With the team losing games and funds drying up, the college's science department faces a real threat to its future.

Phil decides to return to the team for the sake of the department, and Claire explains that the dinner was innocent. Weaver is reinstated as well, and Calvert regains momentum.

Calvert wins the big game, and the coach is offered to quit but is given a second chance by his wife and by the college.
