As the chaos on Chewandswallow Island subsides, the residents look forward to a new beginning. Enter Chester V, the CEO of Live Corp and Flint Lockwood’s childhood idol, who arrives on the scene to assist with cleanup and relocation efforts, sending islanders on their way to San Franjose, California. Eager to impress, Flint teams up with Live Corp but suffers an embarrassing blow when his latest invention, a “Party in a Box,” malfunctions during a public demonstration.

Later, Chester confronts Flint regarding the ongoing antics of the “Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator” (FLDSMDFR), revealing that it has birthed a bizarre breed of sentient food creatures, aptly named foodimals. After a foodimal attack on Live Corp employees, Chester assigns Flint the crucial mission of returning to the island to disable the FLDSMDFR by using a “BS-USB” device. Despite Flint’s initial hesitations about embarking alone, he gathers his most loyal companions: Sam Sparks, his meteorologist girlfriend; Steve, his trusty pet monkey; Earl Devereaux, the reliable police officer of the island; and Brent McHale, the former mascot. Flint’s widowed father, Tim, also decides to come along, aiding their journey with his fishing boat. Unbeknownst to Flint, Chester has his own hidden agenda and has assembled his team of Live Corp employees, including his beleaguered assistant Barb, to chase after Flint.

On their adventurous boat ride, Tim unexpectedly forms a bond with a lively cluster of sentient pickles, while Flint and his friends step into a jungle of culinary marvels that now defines the island’s landscape. Facing a host of edible creatures like Barry, a friendly strawberry, and the dreaded Tacodile, their journey is shadowed by the terrifying Cheespider, a menacing foodimal notorious for its previous attacks. After Chester makes a timely entrance, the Cheespider retreats, but suspicions grow within the group, especially for Sam Sparks, leading to a fracture among Flint’s allies as they opt to return to the safety of the boat.

In a twist, they soon learn that the Cheespider’s aggressive behavior stemmed from the presence of Live Corp branding, prompting them to uncover the unsettling truth: the “live” in Live Corp is an anagram for “evil.” Unfortunately, this realization arrives too late, as Chester’s henchmen capture Sam Sparks and the others during their warnings to Flint.

Refusing to be disheartened, Flint teams up with Chester and Barb to track down the FLDSMDFR. Their journey takes a bizarre turn when they meet a trio of animated marshmallows spawned by the machine. Flint’s hesitance to use the BS-USB sits poorly with Chester, who seizes the opportunity, revealing his true nature: an ambition to utilize the FLDSMDFR’s power for his own nefarious purposes and exploit the foodimals in the process.

As calamity unfolds, Barry and their marshmallow companions execute a daring rescue mission for Flint. Reuniting with his father, Flint confronts the grim reality that the ecosystem of the island is faltering without the FLDSMDFR. Determined to rectify things, Flint pledges to safeguard both the island and its foodimal residents who regard him as their creator.

The climax erupts at Live Corp, where an uproar ensues with the foodimals rallying to aid their friends against Live Corp’s hapless employees. Flint, voiced by Bill Hader, finds himself locking horns with his former hero, now turned adversary, Chester V, voiced by Neil Patrick Harris, who threatens Flint with a dangerous ultimatum.

Amidst the chaos, Flint ingeniously employs his “Party in a Box,” turning the tide against Chester, while partners return to the fray, bouncing back to join forces once more. As Chester attempts to flee with the FLDSMDFR, the tide shifts against him, with Barb finally breaking free from the villain’s manipulations, seizing the machine for herself, leading to a showdown with the Cheespider.
