Scientist Richard Quinn embarks on a quest in San Javier to capture the legendary chupacabra, believing it possesses unique abilities. His intentions are driven by the desire to exploit the creature for research purposes, setting the stage for the conflict that follows.

While tracking the chupacabra in an abandoned mine, Richard Quinn unexpectedly encounters the creature. Unfortunately, in the chaos, the chupacabra is injured, prompting her to abandon her baby cub to distract the scientists following her.

Thirteen-year-old Alex travels to Mexico after the death of his father, Beto, due to cancer. The trip was initially meant to strengthen their bonds, and now Alex seeks to connect with his extended family for the first time.

Upon arriving, Alex meets his grandfather Chava, a retired lucha libre champion, and his lively cousins Memo and Luna. This meeting plays a crucial role in helping Alex navigate his grief and his new surroundings.

On his first night, Alex discovers a young chupacabra cub in an unexpected encounter. As the cub licks a cut on his hand, Alex feels an immediate connection but decides to keep the creature a secret from everyone else.
