Sunder, a young graduate, dreams of building a school on his village's half-acre. He is drawn into a mortgage scam when Prem, a slick conman, convinces him to hand over his money. Prem runs off with the funds, leaving Sunder to pursue the dream with no backing.

Prem deceives Sunder into handing over his money in return for a mortgage and escapes to Dubai. Sunder, arriving in Mumbai to seek help, discovers Prem's betrayal and is left penniless. He steels himself to survive in a foreign city while chasing his dream.

In Mumbai, Sunder loses his luggage and is pickpocketed, losing all remaining cash. Realizing Prem's betrayal, he finds himself with nowhere to go and seeks shelter in a cemetery. The stark situation sets the stage for a supernatural encounter.

Sunder sits on a tombstone and vents his frustration when a voice answers. The ghost becomes visible and introduces himself as Amar Kumar, aka Marco, explaining that only Sunder can hear him. He asks Sunder to listen and help him in return for help with his dream.

Marco recounts that he was an underworld gangster who fell in love with Savitri Kaul and tried to reform for her. On his wedding night, he was kidnapped and killed by his protégé Kunta and buried in the cemetery. He reveals that many crimes in the city under his name are actually Kunta's doing.

Marco explains that his sins block his redemption, and only Sunder— the one who can hear him—can help restore his name. He declares a bargain: if Sunder helps him, Marco will guide him toward his dream. He asks to see Savitri and Mr. Kaul to begin the process.

With Marco's guidance, Sunder secures a position as a cricket coach at Mr. Kaul's school, giving him a foothold to support the dream. This new role also binds Sunder to the Kaul family and sets the stage for Marco's plans to unfold.

Marco reveals that after his murder, Kunta lied to Savitri by claiming Marco was alive and had fled India to force a hand over ownership documents. Savitri refuses to hand the documents to Kunta unless Marco returns in person. This manipulation foreshadows the tragedy that followed.

Savitri dies soon after these events, leaving Marco bereft but wiser. He learns that he has a daughter with Savitri named Mala, giving him a new reason to fight.

The Kaul school lacks funds, and Kunta schemes to usurp its land, threatening Sunder's dream. Marco uses his ghostly abilities to shield Mala and Sunder from Kunta's interference, deepening the bond between them.

Marco reveals a hidden room where his loot is kept and suggests an anonymous donation to save the school. Kunta locates the room, and the money is stolen for darker purposes. Sunder is blamed for the theft, though there is no proof.

Marco confesses the truth about the stolen money to Sunder, which strains their partnership. Sunder is arrested and later released from prison, determined to redeem himself in a crucial cricket match to save the school.

Sunder's team faces Kunta's in a high-stakes cricket match. Initially they stumble, but Marco's unseen intervention helps turn the game, leading to a dramatic victory that secures the school's funds.

During the climax, Kunta abducts Sunder and Mala and plans to bury them in Marco's old grave. Marco leads the police to the cemetery and a fierce showdown ensues, ending with Kunta's confession.

Sunder and Mala marry with Marco in attendance. When Mala pleads for mercy for Kunta, Marco relents. A ray of light falls on Marco as he ascends to heaven, and he asks viewers to do the right thing while alive.
