Bunty Aur Babli

From the quiet village of Fursatganj, Rakesh Trivedi dreams of breaking out of a predictable life, while his railway worker father hopes for a stable government job for him. In a nearby village, Vimmi Saluja, Rani Mukerji longs for Miss India glamour and a life of glitter, even as her parents arrange a traditional marriage. Both youths reject the expected paths and, drawn by a shared urge to shape their own destinies, they meet at a railway station and instantly bond over their ambitions.

After a businessman steals Rakesh’s idea, the pair decide to fight back by turning clever, bold schemes into a new way of life. They adopt the aliases Bunty and Babli — Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji respectively — and set off on a nationwide spree, disguising themselves as religious leaders, bureaucrats, investors, and tour guides. Their audacious capers draw public attention and recruit admiration, even as they stay on the run from the law. A high-spirited energy drives their escapades, and their chemistry strengthens as they chase bigger conquests.

Their notoriety grows, their partnership deepens, and their dream of a shared life begins to look inseparable from their criminal persona. They eventually marry and start a family, while the chase continues under the gaze of the law. The pursuit is led by JCP Dashrath Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, a stern officer determined to bring them to justice. The couple’s dazzling cons keep producing headlines, and the hunt tests their vows and their resolve.

Yet as the pressure mounts, the lovers come to a crossroads: can a life of crime ever truly yield a lasting happiness, especially with a newborn on the way? They attempt to put their criminal days behind them, hoping to raise their child in a steadier world. But Singh closes in and captures them, presenting a turning point that will redefine their paths. Moved by their genuine remorse and their wish to reform, he releases them, convinced that their days of deception are over—at least for now.

Three years pass, and Singh offers them a second chance: to use their street-smart skills for good by becoming government operatives who uncover and stop other con artists. The once-amorous duo accepts, channeling their ingenuity into a lawful mission that gives their talents a new, purposeful outlet. As they navigate the delicate balance between past mischief and present duty, their story becomes a curious blend of romance, risk, redemption, and renewed hope, underscored by the idea that even former outlaws can play a role in protecting the public—and in shaping a future where love and loyalty endure.
