Hayabusa 60 (5060B) is an E5 Series Shinkansen traveling from Shin-Aomori to Tokyo, under the attentive supervision of Kazuya Takaichi. Shortly after the train begins its journey, an anonymous caller contacts the JR East headquarters in Tokyo, claiming that they have placed a bomb on board that will detonate if the train slows down below 100 km/h. The caller’s threat becomes a grim reality when a freight train, 2074, is destroyed in Aomori-Higashi, prompting JR East to halt all trains on the Tōhoku Shinkansen to clear a route for Hayabusa 60. The train’s driver, Chika Matsumoto, is given strict orders to maintain a speed above 120 km/h while keeping the bomb’s existence a secret from the passengers.

In Tokyo, the bomber makes further demands, requesting a staggering ¥100 billion ransom from the Japanese citizens in exchange for the passengers’ safety aboard Hayabusa 60. As chaos ensues, Yuko Kagami, a politician with a tarnished reputation, seizes the opportunity to enhance her standing while the government and JR East take measures to address the crisis. As the chief cabinet secretary Suwa updates the public, emphasizing passenger safety, the bomber hacks into various networks, releasing a nerve-wracking video showing the bomb’s installation, thus plunging the train into panic.

Complications arise when a southbound train gets stuck in Morioka after a bird strike, leading JR East to reroute Hayabusa 60 onto the northbound track. Thanks to dispatcher Yuichi Kasagi, the train successfully switches tracks, but disaster strikes as it collides with the rear car of the northbound train. Amidst the turmoil, millionaire influencer Mitsuru Todoroki uses his platform to rally support for the ransom while passengers, driven by fear, contribute to his cause until confronted by Kagami.

As the Tokyo Metropolitan Police dive into the scenario, they draw parallels with the infamous Hikari 109 incident from 1975. On the train, tensions flare up between two livestreamers and Masayoshi Goto, the former owner of Goto Tours, leading to physical altercations. Meanwhile, as Kasagi informs Takaichi of an impending rescue plan, vital equipment arrives from supply train 9012B. The crew works diligently to evacuate the passengers and uncouple the two rear train cars, enabling a rescue train to approach and save those on board while explosions rock the rear section. However, search efforts are hampered when a student, Yuzuki Onodera, goes missing, causing Goto to spiral into a frenzied state. Kagami attempts to soothe Goto as disaster strikes again: the emergency brake on the rescue train activates, causing a catastrophic derailment. As the train speeds dangerously close to losing control, Matsumoto manages to halt it right above 100 km/h, resulting in further chaos.

With a total of 340 passengers safely evacuated onto the rescue train, nine remain on Hayabusa 60, including Takaichi, Matsumoto, and Goto. Takaichi formulates a desperate strategy to connect the Tōhoku and Tokaido Shinkansen lines in Tokyo. In a shocking twist, Onodera reveals herself as the bomber, threatening to detonate the remaining bombs linked to her own heart monitor unless her life is sacrificed. As investigators reveal her father’s connection to the Hikari 109 incident, it becomes clear that a complex web of deception lies behind her actions.

Amidst an increasingly critical situation and Fujii’s deteriorating condition, Takaichi fights back the urge to retaliate against Onodera. Clues from Masatoshi, the son of a former perpetrator, indicate the locations of additional bombs, heightening the urgency. Kasagi concocts a tactical plan to safely explode the train’s front sections away from populated areas while detaching the final cars. In a tense climax, Matsumoto joins her fellow passengers, bracing for the explosions as they approach the uncoupling point.

As the bombs explode and car 7 derails, car 8 comes to a remarkable stop due to a water-filled barrier, allowing rescue operations to commence immediately. Kawagoe captures Onodera, and the passengers celebrate as Todoroki’s fundraiser successfully hits the ¥100 billion mark. The heroic efforts of Takaichi and his crew culminate in gratitude from the rescued passengers, highlighting the resilience of the human spirit in the face of such perilous odds.
