A young French soldier serving in World War I is haunted by the guilt of killing a German conscript who, like him, was a gifted musician trained at the same French conservatory. The war‑time killing does not ease his remorse, prompting him to travel to Germany to confront the slain soldier’s family and seek some form of understanding.
