Bombay Rose

Kamala, a Hindu flower seller, lives with her grandfather, a watchmaker, and her sister, Tara. Their modest life is filled with love, but the threat of a forced child marriage looms over Kamala, pushing her to seek a better future.

After avoiding her forced marriage to an older wealthy man, Kamala and her family migrate to Bombay. This significant move marks the beginning of their pursuit for a hopeful life away from societal restrictions.

To support her family after relocating, Kamala takes up a job as a dancer at a bar called Pyaasa. While there, she captures the attention of Mike, a greedy pimp who aims to exploit her talents for profit.

Mike reveals his true colors by demanding half of Kamala's salary, which is an alarming two lakh rupees. This demand exposes the darker side of her employment at Pyaasa, as her dreams start to clash with exploitation.

Tara establishes a deep relationship with Shirley D'Souza, a former actress from the 1950s. Shirley shares her knowledge of English with Tara, and they often visit a cemetery where Shirley mournfully leaves roses at her lover's grave.

Kamala finds herself haunted by dreams of being a Hindu princess in a Mughal-era romance. This fantasy serves as an escape from her harsh reality and highlights her longing for love and admiration.

In the bustling streets of Bombay, Kamala meets Salim, another flower seller who has fled Kashmir. They share a silent mutual attraction, communicating through stolen glances and the flowers they sell.

Mike spies on Kamala and Salim, leading to a public reveal of Kamala's secret life. Salim feels heartbroken and betrayed when Mike exposes her as a dancer at Pyaasa, causing tension in their budding relationship.

Kamala discovers that Salim has been taking flowers from a cemetery, including Shirley's special red roses. This revelation creates a rift between them, just as Pyaasa faces imminent closure.

Tara and Shirley visit an antique shop where Anthony Pereira expresses interest in Shirley. Encouraged by Tara, they plan to restore Shirley's beloved toys, hinting at a potential romance between them.

Salim visits the cemetery to return the stolen flowers to Kamala, signaling his wish to make amends. Their reconciliation is heartwarming but quickly overshadowed by impending tragedy.

A police raid occurs at Pyaasa, coinciding with Kamala and Salim's desperate attempt to escape. In the chaos, Salim is tragically struck by a car driven by his idol, leading to devastating consequences.

Amidst the turmoil, Shirley passes away, leaving behind her belongings for Anthony. Her death signifies the loss of an era and intensifies the emotions shared by the remaining characters.

Following the upheaval, Mike offers Kamala tickets to Dubai as her only escape. In a dramatic act of defiance, Kamala tears up the tickets, signaling her desire for independence and self-determination.

Kamala and her grandfather embrace a new beginning by opening a toy repair and watchmaking shop called 'Bombay Rose.' With Anthony’s support, they symbolize hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
