Wonderland is an artificial intelligence service that simulates video calls with deceased loved ones by using their stored data and voice patterns. Subscribers can connect with digital recreations of people who have died, essentially creating a virtual space where grief can be processed through simulated conversations. The system maintains the digital echoes of the dead, allowing the living to maintain connections even after physical death.

Bai Li was an archaeologist who needed to conduct field research in the desert. Despite being away from her young daughter Bai Jia, she maintained constant contact through video calls, showing her dedication to both her professional work and her family. The expedition was her job, but she remained emotionally connected to Jia throughout.

Tae-joo was an astronaut who appears to have been in a coma due to some space-related incident. Jeong-in brought him home after he awoke from the coma, but his return created new complications as he had changed during his time in stasis, and the relationship dynamics shifted dramatically.

Tae-joo was suspected of intentionally starting a fire in their apartment building. This accusation deepened Jeong-in's distrust of him and created significant conflict in their relationship. Hwa-ran, Bai Li's mother, contemplated ending the Wonderland service and telling her granddaughter that Li had died. She wanted to cut off the virtual world and face reality, fearing that continuing to use Wonderland would prevent the family from properly processing their loss and moving forward.

While Bai Li was navigating through the Wonderland system to find her daughter, the real Tae-joo physically rescued Jia at the airport. After the rescue, the girl came to terms with the truth of her mother's death, showing how both the digital and real worlds converged to resolve the crisis.

After learning the truth about why she initially subscribed to Wonderland and experiencing the pain of choosing between the real Tae-joo and his digital version, Jeong-in chose to deactivate her service. She decided to face reality with the real Tae-joo rather than continue relying on the simulated version, leading to their reconciliation.

In the epilogue, Hyeon-soo introduces his mother to the Wonderland version of Yong-sik, a dying man whose paternity was in question. This final scene suggests that digital echoes of the dead persist beyond the story's events, leaving viewers to ponder what memories survive when the simulation ends and how imperfect bonds between the living and their digital recreations continue.

At the gate of the apartment complex, Tae-joo visited Jeong-in and discovered she had a Wonderland subscription. He learned she had been interacting with his digital version. The confrontation led to an emotional goodbye, marking a formal end to their immediate relationship as the digital world created an unbridgeable distance between them.

After being rescued by Tae-joo at the airport, Bai Jia came to terms with the truth of her mother Bai Li's death. This acceptance marked a significant emotional turning point, as the girl moved away from the artificial comfort of the Wonderland simulation toward understanding and processing real loss.

After Hae-ri, having lost her own parents, allowed Bai Li to move to the airport network, she appealed to Wonderland subscribers to help locate Jia. This collective effort demonstrated the system's power to mobilize many people in the search, marking a turning point where the community became crucial in the rescue mission.
