In the Colorado Rocky Mountains, 1957, Hope Adler discovers mysterious numbers written in ice and phones a line that only returns static. The chilling call leaves her shaken and convinced something supernatural is at play. The moment seeds a haunting that will echo into later years.

Three years after the prior terror, Finney Blake has built a reputation as a tough kid in Denver, but the violence still haunts him. He beats up a new kid to prove himself, and he masks his trauma with weed. The Grabber’s shadow lingers as a spectral threat that shapes his daily life, while his sister Gwen’s presence keeps him tethered to reality.

Gwen experiences a dream where Felix arrives at Camp Alpine Lake, nervous about starting there, and The Grabber hunts him through the woods. Felix scratches the letter W into the ice as a warning. The nightmare bleeds into Gwen’s waking life, heightening her sense of foreboding.

In another nightmare, Cal is chased and killed by The Grabber, who dismembers him and dumps the remains into the lake. Cal’s ghost leaves a B scratched into the ice, a chilling sign that the past is not done with the camp. Gwen awakes unsettled, realizing the visions may be more than dreams.

Gwen visits The Grabber’s old home and answers the Black Phone. She hears Hope’s voice on the other end, linking the past to the present. The scene is interrupted when Finney arrives to wake Gwen, reminding them that the messages may be warning or guiding them.

To uncover the meaning of Gwen’s visions, they decide to become Counselors in Training at Camp Alpine Lake. They convince Terrence to let them go, aided by Ernesto, the younger brother of their friend Robin. The plan marks a proactive push into the mystery rather than passive fear.

The trio is caught in a fierce snowstorm on the way to the camp, pushing Finney to run ahead and navigate. They are eventually found by Armando, the camp manager, and his niece Mustang, who take them in. The harsh weather tests their resolve and bonds them together.

Gwen is placed in a separate dorm from the boys, and Spike, a camper in the music band, becomes another victim of The Grabber. His head is cut in half and a mark, H, is scratched into the ice. The payphone outside the dorm rings persistently, taunting Finney and heightening the horror.

During breakfast with Mando, Finney answers the payphone again and hears the voice of Felix or a child pleading for help. The Grabber reveals that his revenge will target what Finney loves most. The tension climbs as the group grows more determined to uncover the truth behind the camp’s dark history.

In a chapel meeting, Mando shows pictures of the camp’s last year, including Hope, and Finney recognizes the killer as a maintenance man nicknamed Wild Bill Hickock. The discovery links The Grabber to the camp’s past and confirms the danger is rooted in the facility itself. The revelation clarifies why the ghosts linger and how to end the haunting by freeing the trapped souls.

With the identity of the killer known, the group resolves to locate the missing boys’ bodies in the lake to free their spirits and strip The Grabber of his power. The plan brings the camp community together, drawing in Terrence and others as they prepare for a dangerous search. The ghosts of Felix, Cal, and Spike push them toward action.

The showdown unfolds at the frozen lake as The Grabber attacks with supernatural force. The ghost boys help Finney and Gwen, and Finney smashes the Grabber’s face into the ice to break his power. Gwen strikes back, and the ghosts drag The Grabber into the icy water, ending his reign; Gwen then wakes, kisses Ernesto, and the danger finally recedes.

With the Grabber defeated, Mando calls the families to deliver closure for the victims’ loved ones. The camp begins to recover as the living reckon with the past and the ghosts fade away. The immediate danger has passed, and the living prepare to move forward.

As the dust settles, Gwen answers the payphone again and hears Hope’s voice from Heaven, offering reassurance to her daughter. The two resolve to go home with Terrence and Ernesto, carrying the memories and honesty they’ve gained. The film closes on a note of uneasy peace and renewed family bonds.
