Champak Chaturvedi runs a theatrical troupe in India, and Bunty and Babla are slated to play the hero and the villain. Both want the lead role, and their rivalry strains the troupe's harmony. This competitive dynamic drives much of the early humor and conflict in the story.

Champak discovers Bunty has harassed the play's heroine Anjali and punishes him. The incident exposes the fragility of trust within the troupe. It also motivates Champak to tighten discipline before the big tour.

The troupe lands a contract to stage 30 plays in Britain, arranged by Ravinder Taneja. On the day of departure, Anjali refuses to go, leaving Champak to travel without a heroine. He resolves to find a substitute in Britain, risking further chaos.

Upon arriving in London, Champak proclaims that whoever can bring him a suitable heroine will earn the leading hero part. The quest for a star becomes the central mission in a foreign city. The stakes are raised for Bunty and Babla, who are still vying for recognition.

Babla, following Gullu's advice, goes to a garden to source a heroine, with Bunty in pursuit. They decide to alternate the hero's duties, agreeing to share the limelight. The plan threads them into a web of pursuit, deception, and mistaken identity.

Two men switch the troupe's suitcases, with one containing heroin. Bunty and Babla become suspects in a local police investigation led by Commissioner J. D. Mehra. The danger escalates as criminals close in on them.

The two switchers are revealed to be working for Manubhai Gandhi, a drug smuggler trying to sell to Sher Khan. Gandhi and his men mistake the troupe for undercover police. The pursuit adds menace to the troupe's already chaotic search for a heroine.

Bunty finally enlists Nisha Chauhan, alias Munni, a woman with suicidal tendencies, and she becomes the heroine. Bunty and Nisha fall in love as danger looms. Not long after, Nisha's husband Vikram Chauhan arrives and takes her back to Liverpool.

A few days later, Bunty receives a frantic call about Nisha’s body burning. They later see her briefly on the streets, but no one believes him. The troupe grapples with a haunting mystery as they try to clear their names.

The group decides to stage the play without a heroine. On the night of the performance, Champak spots a frightened Nisha in the restroom, signaling deeper danger. Vikram crashes the venue with a gun, leading to a fatal confrontation during the show.

Bunty accidentally fires the gun, killing Vikram in the chaos. They hide Vikram’s body and Champak's bloodstained kurta in an air-conditioning duct to avoid suspicion. The act turns the production into a crime scene right on stage.

Mehra reveals the truth behind Vikram’s murder—that Vikram had exploited Nisha, who was Mehra’s sister, and that Mehra killed Vikram in retaliation. As criminals converge in the chaos, a swarm of bees drives the chase to the clocktower. A collapsed ladder and the ensuing injuries lead to hospitalizations, and Mehra surrenders to the police after returning Champak’s and Aditi’s passports.
