Fei-fei is trying to run away from her broken family and breaks down on a Taipei street. Feng, recently discharged from the military, sees her screaming in the rain and joins in, letting his voice rise with hers. Fei-fei finds him strange and leaves with her mother, while Feng has already fallen in love with her.

Back home, Fei-fei discovers that her mother secretly read her diary, which she began writing after her father left. She becomes furious that she ran away again and goes to find her friend Yi-li. Yi-li then suggests Fei-fei work at Guang's betel nut stall.

Yi-li's suggestion leads Fei-fei to take a job at Guang's betel nut stall. She becomes a betel nut beauty, wearing sexy clothing to attract drivers and encourage purchases. The stall sits near the building where Feng rents a rooftop hut, bringing their paths back into play.

The betel nut stall location happens to be near Feng's rooftop hut, and the two meet again there. Fei-fei notices Feng's drawing of her in his wallet, deepening their connection. They begin to see each other and eventually move in together.

Their bond grows as they spend time together and support each other in the bustling city life. The relationship gradually becomes more serious, and they eventually start living together. The pair navigate love amid the challenges of their respective ambitions.

Despite an invitation from an old friend to go back to the demanding bakery job, Feng refuses because it is too greasy and harsh for him. He instead spends time hanging out with Guang, keeping a distance from the previous life he left behind. This choice plants seeds for future conflicts and decisions.

Fei-fei lands a small acting role in a movie, which leads a talent scout to notice her. The prospect of becoming a singer looms on the horizon, giving her newfound professional hope. Guang's encouragement nudges Feng to support Fei-fei's evolving career.

Returning home very late, Feng and Fei-fei quarrel as tensions rise. Fei-fei declares she does not want to be a woman who waits for a man to come back, echoing her mother's fate. Their fragile balance teeters on the edge of breakdown.

The day after the quarrel, the two attempt to reach each other but struggle to reconnect. Communication remains strained as the pressures of crime and ambition press in on their relationship. They both search for a way back to each other.

Tiger abducts Feng and Guang, convinced they are the robbers. The pair find themselves caught in a dangerous trap, powerless to stop their captor. The stake of their lives hangs in the balance as fear and adrenaline surge.

Inside Tiger's hold, Ming's influence makes Tiger cautious, but the moment turns deadly when Feng's cell phone rings with Fei-fei's call. Tiger pivots toward Feng and shoots him dead, ending Feng's arc in a sudden, tragic twist.
